Contra & Square Dance - Anne Marie Walter w/ The Dog Branch Cats

March 7th, 8 pm

Anne Marie calls regularly in the Asheville area. She has a particular appreciation for energetic dances that flow. Whether the dance requires a bit of thinking or allows you to turn off your brain and just move to the music. She sees much of her job as becoming invisible, selecting the right dances that allow the band to shine. Accomplished in both Contra and English Country dances, she also enjoys the kind of community dances that appeal to families.

The Dog Branch Cats were formed in 1992 with Bob Dalsemer and Jan Davidson, fiddles, Martha Owen, banjo and David Liden, guitar, Geraud Barralon on bass and Annie Fain Barralon on banjo uke. They play lots of danceable old time tunes along with some lively New England and Celtic reels.

It's a Wonderful Life - Opening night...

Written By Phillip Grecian
Directed By: Debbi Friend and Chris Kincaid

Thursday, Friday, Saturday 7:30 pm, Sunday 2 pm

In our American culture It's a Wonderful Life has become almost as familiar as Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The story is a natural for a stage adaptation: the saga of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been quashed by family obligation and civic duty, whose guardian angel has to descent on Christmas Eve to save him from despair and to remind him-by showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born-that his has been, after all, a wonderful life.

This faithful adaptation has all your favorite characters: George and Mary Hatch, Clarence, Uncle Billy, Violet, and, of course, the Scrooge-like villain, Mr. Potter. This fine dramatization not only celebrates the faith of the season, it also celebrates the American philosophy of life: hard work, fair play and the love and support of one's family and community will be rewarded.

Atlanta Rhythm Section Pure Prairie League at the Anderson Music Hall

The Atlanta Rhythm Section... ARS... In the annals of rock and roll, where do they fit? They put out 15 albums of excellent original material, and consistently put on entertaining live shows-both of which helped establish a broad if not huge fan base. They had some big hits and have been a major player in the Southern Rock scene. But is that the whole story? In some circles, maybe. But for those who've really gotten to know their music over the years, there's a lot more to the story. ARS was paired with contemporaries Lynyrd Skynyrd as the successors to the Allman Brothers - carrying the mantle of "Southern Rock" in the late 70s. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, it may have made sense at the time. But performing songs that were more musically diverse and having hits that had a softer, pop sound, the "Southern Rock" label was a mixed blessing and many of their unique musical accomplishments became lost in a genre that has lived on to this day-but never really fit ARS.

Pure Prairie League maintained itself as a successful country-rock band during the 1970s and early '80s, releasing ten albums and enjoying hits -- including "Amie" and "Let Me Love You Tonight". In 1979 Pure Prairie League became a launching pad for their then unknown lead singer, Vince Gill.
