5 Girl & 20 Boy Exchange Students Still Need Host Families for School This Fall. Final Deadline is Approaching! Please consider hosting one of them or recommending a family that could. If you are not in a position to host, but know families that could, CIEE will pay you $200 for referring each family. To refer families, send me their name, address, email address and phone number. That's all you need to do. I will contact them and if they get approved and host, CIEE will send you $200.00 for each family that you refer that hosts. This is a great fund raiser for any organization too. Contact: Jerry Wolf. 585 734-5800. [email protected] Deadlines are approaching. Won’t you please consider joining us in hosting an exchange student for the 2019-2020 school year. You can help them see America through your eyes and they will tell you about their country through theirs. Attached is the current list of available students as of 8/1 and all you need to know about hosting. Several have deadlines that must be met. They are marked as PRIORITY STUDENTS. Hosting is a remarkable opportunity to make a difference in a young person’s life and be the best decision you have ever made. I am speaking from experience. My wife and I hosted our 12th exchange student, a girl from Norway and our 13th arrives from Italy August 16th. Why do we host: Hosting is a wonderous thing… you spend 10 months taking care of a child you did not give birth to, and someone you did not even know existed a year ago. You help them learn about our country, our state, our city, our government, our family, our culture, and bring them in as one of our own. When it is time for them to return home, it feels right. They have learned and grown...achieved their dreams. You have helped make the world smaller. They are now your International child. Each one takes a piece of you with them. Over the years you have pieces of your heart all over the world. Places you may never see, (but hopefully do) are shaped by things you shared and taught your students. Most of all, you and your family are also changed by all the things you have learned in return. You are forever their American parent. My wife and I love hosting and so will you. We travel the world now and visit them and they come back to visit us. We get to see their country through their eyes like they saw America through our eyes. Our children have also traveled the world to visit their international brothers and sisters from different parents. They have grown and benefited greatly by our decision to host. It is a wonderful experience that I recommend to all. The cultural experience of having an exchange student in schools makes for an amazing experience both for the students in the schools but also the faculty and every member of the community that the exchange student encounters. My name is Jerry Wolf, and I am the Western New York Local Coordinator for the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE). I live in the Park Avenue area of Rochester but cover Monroe County, the surrounding counties plus Erie & Niagara counties. Founded in 1947, CIEE is a non-profit organization with a mission to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. With over 70 years of experience, CIEE is the largest and longest running sponsor of exchange programs in the U.S. Yearly CIEE brings in over 1,200 exchange students from over fifty different countries from around the world. I presently have ten exchange students placed in Western New York for the 2019-2020 school year. The host families and students and the host siblings all become friends and we and the host families offer many optional gatherings to attend throughout the year. My home is an active sleepover location. Would you be interested in opening your heart and your home to one of these wonderful teens? Interested in hosting but do not know if you qualify to host? Host families are as varied as the students who participate in the program. Although their backgrounds, economic means, and lifestyles differ, host families all share an interest in young people and in learning about another culture. Host parents must be at least 25 years of age or older, can be single parents, can be retired, can be empty nesters and can be couples with or without children. Our host families are all volunteers. They welcome an international student into their home because they believe in the benefits of cultural exchange for their family and community. Host families and students are supported by myself, a Regional Director, and CIEE support staff 24/7. The Host Family responsibilities include: To welcome the student into their home as a family member. To provide the student with their own bed. (Students can either be offered a single bedroom of their own or share a room with a child of the same gender and approximate age.) To provide a quiet place for study. To provide the student with three meals a day, and to provide the student with necessary transportation to and from school. Please consider hosting an exchange student or recommending a family that could. These students need you. It will be an amazing experience for you and your family and your new International daughter or son. Check out this link for complete information on hosting and profiles of available students. https://www.dropbox.com/s/jrvl2k7kg2pjaa2/CIEE%20Students%20Available%208%3A1%3A19%20docx%20.pdf?dl=0
