The Pink City of Yerevan: Armenian culture, fine cuisine and fascinati

Yerevan - Europe’s must-see destination❤️💙🧡

ryanair.com Walking through the lamplit streets of Armenia’s enchanting capital, the first thing that strikes you is the city’s unique colours. Buildings covered in bright pink and dusty brown melt together as you mosey around, a fitting contrast of old and new. Nicknamed ‘The Pink City’, shops and caf....

“When these people, the Armenians, grabbing each other by the hand and shoulder to shoulder tread the ground, under the sound of their drums and apricot tools, most of my columns of the palace will turn to dust, than it will be possible to stop them.” (Julius Caesar, Chapter “Armenia or the Land of Majesty)

🇬🇧 Today we celebrate Trndez - one of the church holidays in Armenia. The celebration of Trndez is pagan in origin and is originally connected with sun/fire worship in ancient pre-Christian Armenia, symbolizing the coming of spring and fertility. The main component of this holiday is the bonfire, over which the newlyweds jump (it is believed that if they manage to jump without spreading their hands, their family will be strong, and love will be eternal). Trndez also symbolizes the flourishing of nature: with the help of fire, people fought against cold winter, reminding that it was time to give way to spring. And the meaning of the fire, according to the church, is purification.

🇬🇧️The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates today the Day of the Saint (Surb) Sargis. This holiday traditionally takes place on the third week before Great Fast. Officially it started to be celebrated only since 2007 as the Day of the Blessing of the young. According to ancient tradition, on the night before the Surb Sargis holiday, young people eat salty cakes (“aghi blit”), after that they don’t eat and drink anything in anticipation of seeing the bride or groom in a dream, who will give them to drink. Another custom is associated with this holiday - a tray with fried wheat flour is placed on the roof or on the balcony, in the expectation that there will be left a trace from the hoof of the horse of St. Sargis. According to legend, St. Sargis should fly over the houses with angels. And if in a tray with flour there is left a trace from the hoof of his white horse (a symbol of purity and integrity), then the dream of a boy or a girl in love will come true this year. In Armenia, there are many churches consecrated in honor of St. Sargis, and on this day the churches are full of young men and women, since after the Liturgy a prayer service is often held in honor of the blessing of the young.

Merry Christmas!🙏🌟

❓ Do you know that until the fourth century, most Christians celebrated the birth of Christ in early January.

Armenians still do! Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates Christmas on January 6. #discoverArmenia

On Christmas Eve, Armenians light their homes by taking lights from church as a sign of divine light and blessing. Families sit down to a special meal such as fish—usually Armenian trout—and rice pilaf with raisins. They drink red wine, symbolizing the blood of Christ.

On Christmas Day people visit church to take part in Water Blessing ceremony to commemorate Christ’s baptism in Jordan River. People greet each other with a blessing:

🌠"Christ is Born and Revealed, Great Tidings to you and us!"
