Ohio to Erie Trail!

9 Days / 8Nights ~ Aug. 13 – 21 and Sept. 17 – 25

Join us as we cycle The Ohio to Erie Trail which travels 326 miles from the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati and traverses both rail trails and canal trail as we make our way to the banks of Lake Erie in downtown Cleveland. On this great tour you’ll cycle through gorgeous scenery, pastoral farmlands of Amish Country, enjoy the history of the Ohio & Erie Canal, and charming whistle-stop towns of the Ohio Railroad before reaching the sandy shores of Lake Erie.
Historic Ohio & Erie Canal

Starting in Cleveland, we begin on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail spending our first few days cycling from the city, to beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park taking in the beautiful scenery and enjoying the history of the canal where, from 1827 to 1913, mules pulled canal boats laden with passengers and goods up and down this historic Canal.

Exploring the Ohio & Erie Canal

In addition to gorgeous farmlands, between Dalton and Fredericksburg the bike trail runs through Holmes County which is the second largest Amish community in North America, and for approximately 25 miles the trail runs alongside an Amish buggy path, which creating quite a unique experience for everyone.

Charming Railroad Communities

Connecting with the Heart of Ohio Trail the OTET follows the Cleveland, Akron, Columbus (CC&A) Railroad. This section is representative of the entire trail with a delightful mix of rural towns with charming main streets and grand courthouses, kitschy Americana, riverfronts and rolling valleys.

Grand Finale in Cleveland! Where Rail and Canal Converge

As we make our way through the northern reaches of the OTET, the rail trails deliver us once again to the beautiful tow path passing by historical sites, colorful villages, canal bridges, Fink Truss Bridge, (on the National Register of Historic Places), and Fort Laurens, a pre-Revolutionary War encampment, before we dip our wheels in Lake Erie, ending our incredible journey!
