Title IX: Activism On and Off the Field
Through September 4, 2022 11:00am - 5:00pm
A new exhibition immerses visitors in the spaces shaped by the groundbreaking 1972 legislation and reveals the crucial work of activists in demanding that their institutions live up to the law’s promises.
Title IX: Activism On and Off the Field commemorates the 50th anniversary of Title IX, an addition to the Education Amendments Act of 1972 that fundamentally reshaped American society by prohibiting discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal assistance. Best known for its twin flashpoints of sports and sexual harassment, Title IX covers a broad swath of American educational life, from K-12 to higher education, thanks to activists and lawmakers determined to secure the advantages of education for all students.

Harlem Jazz Series Review
This was a richly spent hour, listening to jazz on a very high level and in a warm and welcoming church. I hope to return many times to your events and hope they go on and on. Vincent Chancey is a serious artist and his quartet - just wonderful!
Thanks for the experience.

New York, New Music: 1980–1986
Through September 18, 2022
During the early 1980s, New York experienced a community-driven musical renaissance. The result was an era of creativity and genre-defying performance that stands as one of the most influential in musical and cultural history. A wide range of music, from punk to pop to hip-hop to salsa to jazz, mixed in a dynamic arts scene that stretched across clubs and bars, theaters, parks, and art spaces. Together, they provided fertile ground for a musical revolution—one that continues to influence pop culture to this day. Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of MTV, New York, New Music: 1980–1986 highlights diverse musical artists—from Run DMC to the Talking Heads, from Madonna to John Zorn—as a lens to explore the broader music and cultural scene, including the innovative media outlets, venues, record labels, fashion and visual arts centered in New York City in these years.

Accentuate the Positive
May 28 - 29, 2022 7:00pm
It was in 1944 that Bing Crosby made the Johnny Mercer tune, Accentuate the Positive, a hit in film and on radio. It later became known as one of the songs that got Americans through World War Two. The popular songs of the day, now called the American Songbook, became an unofficial catalogue of music that comforted, inspired, and connected Americans at home and abroad between the 1920s-1940s.
Now, Jazz at the Ballroom presents Accentuate the Positive, an evening of the unforgettable music from the Songbook that kept Americans company for over four transformational decades. Songs include Pennies from Heaven, Look for the Silver Lining, On the Sunny Side of the Street, It Had to be You, and As Time Goes By.

GREAT WAY TO END OUR NYC TRIP!
Our Harlem bus tour was the perfect ending to a 3-day group trip to NYC. Carolyn was very accommodating and responsive during the planning of the custom tour and lunch. The tour was everything we discussed and more. The group loved the tour and the combination of the tour stops was a great way for a group with ages ranging from 6 to 70 years to cover a lot of ground in 5 hours. We truly learned about Harlem - past, present, and future. Welcome to Harlem will definitely be my choice for all future Harlem tours!!!
