Free Tours by Foot - New York City

Had a great tour of Greenwich Village, Chelsea and the High line with Lori. Enjoys sharing her vast knowledge and encourages questions to be asked. Definitely would book a tour with this company and Lori!
Had a fabulous and informative tour with John G on the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO tour! Very knowledgable and enjoys sharing! He is witty and considerate of others during Covid times. Definitively would book a tour with him and this company!
How can we tip Lori (Laurie ??) for doing all these live online short tours?? If I were there (and I have been on several of your tours in past years) I would be tipping her. Can I do that online?
Hey NYC (and those who love her)! If you didn’t know, they’re redesigning the Brooklyn Bridge! Still time to vote for your favorite design!!!

We did a Free Tours by Foot Food Tour on Friday the 13th with Lori. In Greenwich Village. It was her last tour. We had a great time. It was just my family of 4. She took us to some amazing restaurants and historical sites. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. Hopefully I will be able to return to New York and take some more tours with her. Unfortunately our tour on Sunday the 15th was cancelled and we had to cut our trip short and head back home.
Awesome food tour of lower east side, Manhattan. Definately recommend! Come Hungry!
Took the subway art tour with Darryl.
I highly recommend this tour! Very unique and interesting, Darryl was super informative and nice and i think he's a great tour guide. It was a great choice for a different way to learn about the city.

Enjoy! :)
We had a great tour of Soho/Little Italy/China Town last week. Excellent pace. Great info. Would certainly recommend.
Hi admin,
We already book online for 4 people for tomorrow Saturday morning, however we not yet get the confirmation where the meeting point?
Any advice please?
We had a great tour on 28th December with Kyle. Our 6 and 4 year old sons loved seeing where Elf and Home Alone 2 were filmed, and there's something for the grown up movie buffs as well, such as Ghostbusters, Serendipity and Miracle on 34th St.

Having nearly been suckered into some of the bus tours (charge a fortune, barely any buses, then no room on the ones that do actually stop) it was very refreshing just to pay what we thought the tour was worth. Thanks Kyle!
My wife and I were in NYC over Christmas and did the Christmas Lights tour. John, our guide, was awesome. Keeping approx. 30 people together in crowds of thousands of people is a skill and John did a great job. Lights were fantastic and John also added information about NYC that we will use on our next trip. I highly recommend this tour!

We’ll show you the unique architecture and cutting-edge art that is a part of and surrounds the High Line, but you really should come for the awesome views!

The High Line is a park that is 1.45 miles (2.33 km) and runs through several neighborhoods – Greenwich Village, the Meatpacking District, Chelsea, and Midtown Manhattan.

The park is built on an elevated commercial rail line constructed in 1934. By 1980, the railroad was no longer operating and the tracks were abandoned.

In 2006, a non-profit organization repurposed the tracks into a public greenspace and High Line was born.

Spending time in this unique park with amazing views is one of the most popular activities in NYC.

Tribeca New York Walking Tour

Join Lori, a tour guide with Free Tours by Foot, on a Tribeca New York walking tour. MORE NYC VIDEOS -

Tribeca is a neighborhood often overlooked by visitors to New York City. Perhaps because it doesn’t offer the iconic images: you won't find the famous skyscrapers, there are no giant neon billboards, and no hustle and bustle you find in other neighborhoods.

That is the beauty of Tribeca — it gives you the chance to stroll casually along old cobblestone and Belgian-block streets.

As you look up at splendid cast-iron buildings inscribed proudly with the year they were built, you can imagine the New York of a bygone era, an era when horses and buggies filled the streets, when commerce was what Tribeca was all about, and not condominiums, as it is today.

When Is the Best Time to Visit New York City?

The best time to visit NYC depends on what “best” means to you.

If by best you mean cheapest times to visit, then that’s much easier to answer, come just about anytime between January and February.

However, there are also relatively cheap times to visit during periods of the high season. Read our section below explaining when is cheapest.

If your definition of best is mostly concerning the weather, then that’s also an easy answer. You should visit between May and June or between September and November. This is when it is the warmest with the least amount of rain.

Union Square NYC Walking Tour

For over 150 years Union Square has been a hub of shopping, commerce, entertainment, and political activism. Join Lori, a guide with Free Tours by Foot on this live walk through one of Manhattan's most iconic neighborhoods, home to the first Shake Shack :).

Union Square has frenetic energy similar to the pace of Midtown but with the hip feel of downtown. In the early 1800s, the area was rural with a potter’s field (cemetery for the poor).

In 1807, two major roads intersected here and this intersection was designated as Union Place because of the ‘union’ of these two roads, Bloomingdale Road (now Broadway) and Bowery Road (now 4th Avenue).

By the 1850s, the area surrounding Union Place was filled with elegant mansions, hotels, stores, and banks.

Which New York City Pass is Best?

This video explains the various different tourist attraction discount passes that are available to you in NYC.

There are several different passes to choose from, and we have broken them down by type.

0:46 - All Inclusive Pass
1:20 - Pick Your Attractions
1:47 - Build Your Own Pass
2:15 - PrePackaged Passes
2:43 - Bus Combo Passes
3:05 - DIY Pass

An ALL-INCLUSIVE PASS such as the New York Pass or the New York Sightseeing Pass, allows you to enjoy as many attractions, tours, and experiences as you can within a set number of days for one set price (think of an all-you-can-eat buffet).

These are the most expensive type, but you could potentially save the most amount of money with these passes.

Then there are passes that allow you to choose a set # of attractions and tours.

These passes, such as the New York Explorer Pass or the Sightseeing Flex Pass, usually give you the option to choose, 3, 5, or more options from a large pool of options.

These are a bit cheaper than all-inclusive and keeps flexibility, but your savings potential is lower.

A build-your-own pass is even cheaper, allows more flexibility and certainty (think à la carte) but limits the savings even more.

Another option is prepackaged passes (think set-menu), such as the CityPass. These are the most certain of all of the passes.

Lastly, there are numerous hop-on-hop-off bus tour companies that offer their own combo deals.
