Famous for its sheer beauty and cultural treasures (as well as its recent history as the filming location for King’s Landing in the HBO series Game of Thrones), Dubrovnik is one of the most spectacular walled cities in the world. Rich with 1,000 years of history, it bears the title “Pearl of the Adriatic,” and it’s no wonder that it does, as this charming and impressive city is much like an open-air museum, surrounded by the shimmering Adriatic Sea. In April, Indagare members can embark on a virtual tour through the cobblestone streets and squares of Dubrovnik, from Rector’s Palace to the Franciscan monastery hiding Europes oldest pharmacy. The session is part of Indagare's exclusive partnership with WSJ+, and is only available to Indagare and WSJ+ members.

Charleston is "the perfect mix of history, charm, climate and culture,” says The Dewberry's Jaimie Dewberry. “Around every corner is another treasure to be explored, I am still finding this to be true today as I discover something new on my walkabouts downtown. We caught up with her for her insider tips on this Indagare-favorite city. ""Whether it’s the floating sounds of church bells, hidden gardens, a quirky café, or the way the sun shines on a crumbling plastered wall, I think it is how the history, architecture, nature and culture all collide in this deeply rooted, special city.”

Originally known as Raqmu, the ruins we now call Petra once formed the capital of the Nabataean kingdom. The city flourished in the 1st century AD thanks to immense wealth that came from the Nabataeans' role in the Arabian spice trade. Today, the UNESCO site has been named one of the "New Seven Wonders of the World."
This November, explore Petra with an expert guide as part of Indagare's Set Departure trip to Jordan. During the six-day itinerary, travelers will experience many of the country's archaeological, cultural and natural highlights—from the Wadi Rum desert and the Dead Sea to the ancient ruins of Jerash and the modern metropolis of Amman. Salzburg is famously known as Mozart’s birthplace, but its significance goes far beyond his unrivaled musical genius. The city has played a unique role in the music world, yes, but also in development of medical innovations and architecture. As an independent city in the Holy Roman Empire, it became fabulously wealthy, and brought in Italian architects to transform the center into a showcase for Baroque architecture (protected from above by a massive 11th century Gothic fortress).
Later this month, Indagare members can learn more about Salzburg's fascinating history as they take a livestream tour through the winding streets. They'll be exploring the UNESCO-recognized city with an expert guide, who'll discuss everything from its tumultuous Medieval era to its starring role as the backdrop for The Sound of Music.
The session is part of Indagare's exclusive partnership with WSJ+, and is only available to Indagare and WSJ+ members. Head to the link below to learn more about the perks an Indagare membership can offer you.

It’s almost sakura season in Japan! Between late March to mid-April, Japan’s iconic cherry blossoms bloom across the country, from Tokyo and Mount Fuji to the mountainous Sapporo of the north and the volcanic Kyushu of the south, making a stunning and dynamic destination even more magical. The Japanese government recently announced a limited reopening plan, allowing foreign students and business travelers (among select others) back into the country, a positive sign for the future of tourist travel to Japan. We can’t wait to be allowed to return, but until then, we’ll settle for looking at some beautiful springtime photos.
Japan is one of our picks for a trip of a lifetime. Head to the link below to see 22 more that you can start planning now.

A Friday daydream courtesy of two beach-loving kangaroos. Earlier this month, the state of Western Australia reopened to both domestic and international arrivals for the first time since March 2020. The massive state occupies a third of Australia's total territory and had previously been closed even to fellow Australians. Now, visitors can once again explore its white-sand coast and cosmopolitan capital, Perth.

indagareceo Melissa Biggs Bradley recently returned from a trip to Charleston, where she gave a talk at the Charleston Library Society, found new must-try restaurants and got a sneak peek of the International African American Museum, slated to open later this fall.
In May, Indagare's new trip to Charleston will give an intimate group of travelers the opportunity to join a private hard-hat tour of the groundbreaking museum. Also on the itinerary: meeting with historians, architects and experts to gain a fuller understanding of life in antebellum Charleston, all while based at Indagare-adored boutique property, The Dewberry, in easy reach of the city's colorful mansions and jasmine and magnolia trees.

Happy ! We love this season of optimism and renewal. And few destinations are so tied to the season as the Netherlands, where the Dutch obsession with tulips dates back to the 16th century, when the bulbs were first planted here. Within a few decades, prices for the bulbs soared to unimaginable new heights—a period known as Tulipmania. Even today, the mania hasn't fully stopped: the Netherlands accounts for nearly 90 percent of the world’s total area of tulip farms.
