Tangible,effective and solid contribution should always be the winner in a world that often is filled with " empty promises" and "window dressing"
Now that I have caught your attention, let me introduce myself.
I am Lavonne Wittmann and have been a passionate,active Skal member for 20 years. I have worked on Club committees, held the Vice President and President positions in my club and embraced the combined positions of National President and International Councillor for 7 South African Clubs. While Serving as an International Councillor I introduced two new membership classifications into Skal International namely Medical and Sport Tourism and was the Lead Councillor for many other tasks that were presented to the Council.
It was an honour to be voted to the International Council Board and served as Secretary for 1 year before being seconded to the Executive Committee where I was allocated the portfolio of Public Relations and Communications, a portfolio I have actively worked on for 2 years.
Even though a specific portfolio has been allocated to each Director during their tenure, your work is never restricted to this portfolio as you are expected to assist in other portfolios as well as actively contribute to the numerous tasks presented to the Executive Committee.
What have I been involved with during my term of office?
- Editor for 8 monthly E Newsletters and 4 E Magazines
- Designed the Officers Newsletter published in February annually which is the
handbook to assist clubs to be more effective in their administration duties
- Administration officer for the Skal International page
- Innovator of the EC Forums at The World Congresses
- Writer of the Public Relations Manual
- Contributor to the Social Media Manual
- Contributor to the Becoming and Being a Club President Manual
- Contributor to The Trade Fairs Manual
- Designer of the Take Charge Thursday messages while launching 3BaysOver in
2016
- Introduced a more "user friendly" format for newsletters and magazines
- Co- Designer of the Exit Strategy for members leaving Skal
- Introduced a Mentorship programme for Clubs globally to be launched soon
- Instrumental in forging a partnership with WTM Africa and Skal and hosted the
Skal stand from 2014-2017 at the Cape Town Convention Centre
I am an innovator, love new challenges and adaptable to the ever changing world of Travel and Tourism, an industry I have been involved in for 35 years.
While honoring the traditions, protocols and history of our brilliant organization as well as understanding the diverse cultures, generation needs and different languages, change in Skal is needed and I embrace this completely.
If you are looking for a hard worker with skill, dedication and passion for Skal, then I would please ask for your Club's vote on election day at the World Congress.

Another wonderful experience as part of the international membership of SKAL. My company operated a women’s Caucasus tour that began in Baku,Azerbaijan. We invited a member of SKAL BAKU to meet with us. Here is Ellada Aliyeva who spoke to us elegantly about women and life generally in Baku. What a charming and fascinating speaker!
We donated to their scholarship fund for a young woman entering our industry.
From now on, we will search for interesting speakers like Ellada to enhance our tours.
I’m in Baku Azerbaijan with a group from my company. Contacted SKAL Baku and they offered to send a speaker to address us. Another wonderful benefit of the international network of friends.
Great Zoom Meeting Today with an included raffle from Club Med for a trip for 2, there were 2 lucky winners. Thank you April Dawn for your presentation and gorgeous Club Med photos. Very impressive video about Club Med in Cefalu Sicily. Skal members joined today from NJ, LA, FL,AR, and I noted Mary Barnett from CA.

Our first in person meeting in 15 months. Not our first meeting; we had the most fabulous line up of travel experts and marketing gurus throughout the Pandemic. Skal NY Past Presidents Outing
Highlights of our first in-person gathering in 15 months as we celebrated Skal NY Past Presidents. A huge thanks to John Ruzich, Betty, and their family for hosting this wonderful party at their lovely home in NJ. Many thanks to Czech Tourism rep gave lovely goodie bags; Dean Fenton of Antigua Tourism for delighting us with his beautiful poetry and gifts; and Greg Marshall for indulging us with a generous supply of fine wine. As always, it was great time among friends, delicious food, and lots of laughter. Great job Wayne and Olena. Skal!

Remembering our beloved friend Susan Barber, a veteran in the travel industry.
Our dear Susan passed away at Mt. Sinai Hospital on 19 Oct 2020.
There is a service for Susan at St. James Church, 865 Madison Avenue, between 71st and 72nd Streets on Tuesday, December 1st at 2:00pm. Susan loved St. James's Church and was deeply involved there. Her ashes will be interred in their Columbarium.
The Church has requested that anyone who plans on attending the service should let Rosa Gentile know at, [email protected]. Alternately, to participate in the service via ZOOM please reach out to Ms. Miness to receive the link. [email protected].
