Did you know that May is Bicycle Safety month? Many big U.S. cities have public bicycle rental options. These can be great ways to spend a day! But please also remember to be safe; according to the National Safety Council, bicycle-related accidents peak in the summer months, starting in June, and they remain high through September. Find some tips for bike safety here: https://www.nhtsa.gov/road-safety/bicycle-safety (📷: au pair Dham)

How can we be more responsible travelers? #CarbonOffsets are one option: put simply, many travel companies provide an option to pay a little extra to make up for your own #CarbonEmissions by investing in things like reforestation or renewable energy projects.
Think of it like a scale: you're trying to balance, on one side, the harm done to the environment with, on the other side, good things for the environment. The goal is to "offset" the bad with the good, resulting in a balanced scale in an effort to be carbon neutral.
Learn more about what carbon offsets really do and how to be a more responsible traveler: https://www.interexchange.org/articles/responsible-travel/how-you-can-help-save-the-environment-with-carbon-offsets/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=2022-04-26-org-fb-blog-promo

We love watching our participants grow on our programs. Patricia, from the #DominicanRepublic, loves traveling because she gets to know herself better and improve her decision making. "Thanks to Work & Travel USA, I had the opportunity to #travel outside my country for the first time and I did the whole journey alone. This gave me the opportunity to discover certain skills that I did not know in myself and I have loved it."

For four months I was able to pay my bills alone and I learned so much about myself. For me, travel is about constantly learning!"

Wait, you love #travel too? So do we! InterExchange's own Stephanie loved her time in #Chile. "What I miss most is the people, the culture, the music, and the natural beauty," she says. "I loved #SanPedroDeAtacama in the north for its nature - the desert colors, seeing the moon - it was really unique to me! But most people really love the south of Chile. It’s green and beautiful, and then when you go further south into Patagonia it is really stunning."

Happy #NewYear! Camp USA alum Rudy sees a new year as full of possibilities. He has some advice for starting 2022 off right: "forgive yourself [for any] mistakes... and celebrate the small wins." What's your advice for the new year? Let us know!
Happy New Year's Eve! Many Work & Travel USA participants from #Argentina are in the country at the moment. Facundo will be spending the holiday in #NewHampshire, but he has some advice for celebrating #NewYearsEve Argentinian-style! "In my country we recommend to coordinate a menu if you are going to celebrate with the family, because you have the aunt that makes the salads, the grandma that makes the food and the desserts, etc. So much food!" He also recommends having a karaoke song and champagne prepared for midnight! How about you? What are some New Year's Eve traditions from your own country?
It's almost #NewYearsEve! Macarena, currently on a Work & Travel USA program, is going to spend the new year with her roomies from #Argentina, "so we wouldn’t feel that far away from home." In fact, she has some advice for travelers to not get homesick over the #holidays: "Do a video call with your family so you can feel a little closer to them. Also, in 2022, since I have so many travel plans, it’s important to have your mind busy so you don’t get sad for missing so much. Keep making plans, traveling, and meeting more people!" How about you? What advice do you have for being away from home on the holidays?
In a world of instantaneous connection, we sometimes forget the importance of face-to-face, day-to-day interaction. At InterExchange, we believe that by allowing people to live and work side-by-side with people in another country, we can increase global understanding.
Everyone who participates in our program—whether a student, a young professional, an employer, or a family—comes away with a greater connection to the global community, and a better understanding of the world’s rich cultural diversity. We are committed to building cultural understanding—one person at a time.
