Earlier this month we lived like a local when we stayed at a 28-room, residential style property in Paris’ left bank. Today we are reminiscing about all of the hotel’s thoughtful touches including the surprise basket of French wine and cheese they carefully crafted for our last-minute picnic Jardin du Luxembourg

In the heart of Strasbourg, just a stroll across the River from the Cathedral, lies a special boutique hotel. We enjoyed what surprised us at the end of a quiet entryway off a major walkway. Each one of the property’s 63 rooms have a unique identity thanks to the combination of historic and modern touches.

In 2007, the former site of a hotel dating back to before 1528 was revitalized with the help of archaeologists who restored carved wood façades and balusters, uncovering a historic inscription carved into the wood. On 1 May 2009, the new “La Cour du Corbeau” hotel opened its doors. Guests are invited to step back in time and follow in the footsteps of Marshall Turenne (1647) or travel incognito like the Prussian King Frederick the Great in 1740.

The Shangri-La Paris, opened in December 2010, is the former home of Napoleon’s grandnephew, Prince Roland. Beyond their awarded Palace distinction, we absolutely love the seemingly endless Eiffel Tower views from both suites and their new garden terrace. We are still blown away by the impeccable anticipatory service we experienced.
