It takes year round hard work from our all-volunteer group along with support by way of donations from the public. So we can document and protect Marine Mammals here in the New York Bight – NYC Waters specifically. We are not just about protecting the Marine Mammals alone but the food they forage for and the waters they live in. It’s a daily fight but the reward is tremendous!

The American Princess Cruises Captain's are doing an overnight run offshore to the Hudson Canyon. The AP pushes off the dock on the night of August 22 at 10pm (945pm if everyone’s on the boat). The AP will arrive at the Hudson Canyon around Sunrise on Monday August 23. We will have all day on the Canyon waters to observe many different whales, offshore dolphins, turtles, sharks, and an amazing number of different Pelagic birds. We return the night of Monday August 23 at approximately 6pm.
The captains have set a limit on the passenger count for this trip. The AP will not be crowded, plenty of room for all to move around and observe whatever we encounter. Inside the AP cabin there are many cushioned spots to sleep comfortably. It is advised that you bring your sleeping bag or bean bag chairs and grab a spot inside or outside under the stars if that works for you.
Passengers will board in the order in which their booking was received.
The AP has a small galley and is stocked with beer, wine and spirits, snacks (cookies, coffee cakes, chips), soda, water, coffee and tea. You are encouraged to bring what you will be eating and drinking on this trip. Small coolers only are welcome.

Interesting Humback Whale fact. Did you know Humpback Whales are color blind?
Let's talk about color! Did you know that Humpback whales are color blind? 👀 Most colors in the ocean appear blue or green because those light waves penetrate deeper into the ocean. Humpbacks don’t need to worry about colors though, as they are able to identify different contrasts instead.
Big schools of fish or krill appear as dark masses on a light background (water), so whales can locate their food with ease. However, scientists think humpbacks use other senses to find prey since feeding where light is limited would be difficult for a whale that only relied on contrast vision!

Yesterday we started the New Year off with a Sunday Funday Bird & Seal Watching Adventure Cruise. Yesterday’s Sunday Funday Adventure Cruise saw two separate groups of very playful and leaping Bottlenose Dolphin. The first group we encountered had about 25 Dolphin and the second about 35. It was a beautiful chilly fall day out yesterday with flat calm seas, multiple whales sightings were reported. We searched all over the areas but unfortunately didn’t see one. Yesterday’s sightings were a harbor seal, a pod of Bottlenose Dolphin, northern gannets, surf and white winged scoters. Our next trip is today at 12pm noon.
