The world can use all the joy it can get right now. One way to find that? The happiest place in the world, of course—and this year, that’s Colombia! The South American country took the top spot for happiest nations in Gallup’s annual “End of Year” poll.
*
Honestly, though, we’re not surprised considering everyone loves working with our team in Colombia. Whether it’s smiling big at the peak of Monserrate in Bogotá (that’s our crew!), getting an endorphin boost with an outdoor activity at Páramo Matarredonda, or hanging at the beautiful San Luis Beach on San Andrés Island, Colombian happiness is truly contagious!
✌️ out 2021. We're looking ahead to all the adventures 2022 has to offer. Here's a sneak peek of what's in store: https://firstinservice.com/f1rst-magazine/f1rst-selects/what-bucket-list-travel-means-in-2022/

Happy New Year!
F1S advisor Linda Montemarano recently spent some time in Colombia—and did so much while she was there. From getting a #F1RSTLOOK at the new Sofitel Barú Calablanca Beach Resort, which is just a half hour speedboat ride from Cartagena, to checking out the gorgeous street art in the Getsemani neighborhood of Cartagena to exploring the rich culture in Bogotá while staying at the Four Seasons Bogotá, she truly had an amazing visit!

But of course, no visit to Colombia would be complete without a visit to F1S’s Bogotá office, where Linda and the team got to spend some always-great face-to-face time together!

What’s your favorite part of visiting Colombia?
We’re talking about bucket list travel for 2022—and while we often think of bucket list trips as multi-week, far-flung journeys, they don’t always have to be. Not only can they be seamlessly incorporated into your busy schedule, but they can also be much closer to home than you think.

One we love? National parks. Visits to these U.S. beauties have been on the upswing since the start of the pandemic, and between the outdoor setting and jaw-dropping natural scenery, we understand why.

What’s your favorite national park to visit? Here’s how one couple booked a trip to Yosemite—balancing work and life in the process, plus more inspiring bucket list experiences.

F1S advisor Isla Steinberg is currently in paradise aka @FourSeasonsAnguilla... and we're hoping if we ask nicely she'll save a spot for us too! Leave a comment if you have any questions on what 10 days on this gorgeous island looks like?
Who’s ready to talk about 2022 travel?? 🙋 Our forecast: It’s all about bucket list experiences.

But we don’t mean just visiting a place to cross it off a list. It’s about choosing places that are meaningful, about spending time with loved ones and great friends, and about seeing the world through an even more thoughtful lens.

From Antarctica and Scotland to Yosemite National Park and the Galapagos, read on as F1S advisors and clients share the what and why behind their most anticipated 2022 bucket list trips.

It’s beginning to look a lot like the holidays in NYC! “Stay longer, leave later, and travel deeper.” That’s how Michael Ungerer, CEO of Explora Journeys describes what the Explora experience is bringing to the cruise scene.

@explorajourneys, debuting in May 2023 is what lux cruising truly means, with 14 decks on each ship, lots of wellness experiences and dining options, and—what truly stands out—diverse destinations (think: Greenland, the Arctic, the coast of Brazil) and longer journeys, giving you the chance to experience everything they have to offer.

Right now, clients aren’t able to directly book rooms on Explora ships, but F1S advisors can, thanks to Explora’s exclusive “By Appointment” service. So click on the link below to read more—and then let us know if you want in on one of their inaugural sailings.

If you’ve been waiting to book a safari or travel to Africa, now very well may be the best time to go. That’s the scoop from Willa Griffin, the Director of F1S Canada, who just spent 3 weeks visiting 4 different countries.
*
She says that once you’re good with your Covid protocols (tests, vaccinations, for example), traveling these days is incredible—with few tourists. “A perfect example: Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. We were the only people viewing the falls. Imagine having Victoria Falls all to yourself when normally it is wall-to-wall people,” she says.

If you have holiday travel on your mind, let F1S advisor Linda Montemarano’s recent trip to Italy be your inspiration. Over Halloween weekend, F1S’s Erika Reategui and JD Perez were onboard Celebrity Apex— the newest in Celebrity Cruises’ Edge series fleet—for the ship’s inaugural sail. And they had an amazing time: the pics are proof!

While there, they attended numerous shows, checked out the fitness center and whirlpools, ate at both the buffets and the specialty restaurants (Fine Cut Steakhouse and their filet mignon was a favorite!), enjoyed spicy Micheladas at The Sunset Bar at the back of the ship and of course, dressed up for the onboard Halloween party.

Says JD of the cruise, “Sailing out of Fort Lauderdale with the big horns rumbling and seeing the coastline slowly vanish away and the huge open ocean in front of you gave me a feeling of liberation: Seeing how small we are physically, but how much we are able to achieve if we just sail forward in life and keep our eyes set on the horizon.” Here’s to the next sail!

And if you want to see more of what Celebrity Apex has to offer and book your spot, let us know!

Did you hear the great news? As of today, the U.S. is officially welcoming vaccinated travelers from many countries around the world. And we’ve got some (and by some, we mean lots) ideas for what to do when you visit: May we suggest a stay at a gorgeously designed hotel in Boston, like @thenewburyboston or in a private villa at @FourSeasonsResortJacksonHole in Jackson Hole? Or maybe a road trip from NYC for some relaxation at @mayflowerauberge in Connecticut or outdoor fun at @primlandauberge in Virginia?

Located in Manhattan West—close to Hudson Yards and lots of other NYC hotspots—like @dhmeyer newest restaurant @cisiamonyc and food hall @citizensxsbe. Pendry brings a piece of the California oasis to midtown. There’s a robust fitness center (hint: you don’t have to skip your @onepeloton workout) and numerous dining options, including a rooftop whiskey bar opening in the spring. Happy Halloween! Ready to get your scare on? Then bookmark these spooky travel spots:
*
Island of the Dolls: Creepy only begins to describe Isla de las Munecas—but with decaying and abandoned dolls it’s easy to see why. According to the tale, the island, which sits around 17 miles from Mexico City, had a caretaker who discovered a young girl who had drowned, and, since he couldn’t save her, hung up what he presumed to be her doll in homage—then spent half a century amassing more. Rumors abound about the dolls, including that their eyes open and that they talk to each other. Upping the creep factor? The caretaker is said to have drowned in the same place as the girl. You can reach the island by boat.
*
Catacombes de Paris: Descend some 65 feet below the streets of Paris and you’ll find something wholly unexpected: about six million bones from throughout the 18th century. Created from old quarries, many of the bodies from the city’s cemeteries were brought to this underground ossuary. That included those killed by guillotine during the French Revolution and, likely, many famous Parisians of the day as well. Tickets are available six days a week.

Have you been to either? Tell us your story!
