Adventure Mendota

Adventure Mendota

Adventure Mendota will be closed on Monday, July 8 so that we can have maintenance performed on vehicles and hopeful,t get our stinkin’ internet fixed! We will be back in the river Tuesday!
Thank you to this nice family from Raleigh NC.
Many thanks to Lee and Candace and their three kiddos for yakking with Adventure Mendota this morning!
I like the looks of those new Jackson's. They look like they are a lot more stable than those Sun Dolphins?
Are you winding down for the season? Wondered if there would be a "fall Photo float" for people interested in taking photos - course taking cameras at their own risk.
What's the water like after the storm yesterday ?
Best birthday surprise ever! First rate boats and the Holston river is 95% as wild (and untouched) as it was 100 years ago! No trash (except 1 tire) along the banks and I have NEVER viewed more natural and beautiful scenery. The owners have created something truly amazing and we loved our outing! Johnny and Barbara Baker Barker
Any pictures of the "teddys" crew from Sunday??
Do you still have tandems and what is that rate? Do you recommend singles over the double?
First time ever kayaking and loved it!!!! People at adventure Mendota are awesome!
We had a wonderful time today! Thank you so much for such a great trip! We all had lots of fun and will definitely do it again!!
Can't wait to see our pictures! Thank you so much for a wonderful day!!

VA Rules Kayak Days June 2019

Update: We've had a large number of folks apply for our summer kayak team positions and we have not yet started interviewing. We'll be doing this soon! We're already talking with folks about Summertime 2020. Here's a video from the 2019 VA Rules Camp that helps get us in the mood! XOXO Eva

In front of the house. I had to run to get Tippy out of the river. She has no sense.

Where we launch kayaks! (But not today!)

Rainy, foggy day in Mendota

Adventure Mendota will begin interviewing kayak team members in mid-to-late February. If you like the outdoors, enjoy kayaking and have the physical ability to team lift (two person) 45-50 pound kayaks repetitively, you may be interested in working with us. While pay is dependent upon experience, beginning hourly rate is $11. Since we do ground maintenance on the property, it's helpful to have experience weedeating and mowing. Adventure Mendota works Wed thru Sun from Memorial Day to Labor Day (weather permitting). If interested, please PM or email [email protected]

Adventure Mendota will be hiring kayak team members for 2020 in the New Year. We’ll be working Wednesday thru Sunday from Memorial Day until Labor Day. If you are athletic, love the outdoors and can work this schedule, private message me. Thank you! Eva

Good morning from Southwest Virginia!

I would not have gotten up and walked two miles this morning without River’s nudging.

North Fork after a couple of days of hard rain. No more drought! Thank you Oscar Harris for this photo

The 2019 Mendota Cemetery Quilt | RiverCliff Cottage…A Journey

In Mendota, Virginia, we have a community cemetery that is primarily maintained by our fundraising through a quilt raffle. Here's some information (link below) about the quilt for those of you who might be interested. Thank you. XOXO Eva

When I was in my early 20’s I told anyone who would listen that I could not wait to see Mendota Virginia in my rear view mirror. I later lived in Nashville, Raleigh, Leesburg, Boston, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Boca Raton. All were lovely and I learned from each move. When I was in my late 30’s, I prayed to return home, and by God’s grace, I did. I’m thankful these feet are now grounded in Southwest Virginia soil...back in Mendota. #mendotava

We are so grateful to Katie Harris and her crew and the Mendota Trail folks for believing in Mendota VA. #mendotava #mendotatrail #floatthefork MENDOTA, Va. — Katie Harris runs a store that sits at the far end of the Mendota Trail. But she’s anxious, still, with anticipation of someday seeing the Mendota Trail connected

Hey Paddlers!
Anybody want to give a try guessing where this picture was taken?

I saw this living and unique clock today. Counting the minutes until we see our friends again. Xoxo. Eva

[09/10/19]   And WOW! It is sure hot! People are calling to go kayaking (we closed on Labor Day). Even if we were open, the river is far too shallow to kayak in right now!

[09/05/19]   Post season seems strange not to be continually thinking and checking weather and river conditions. I have to remind myself that no one cares about the discharge rate after Labor Day. I’ll move on in a day or so!

September 5 2019. The very last kayaks going out for 2019. Thank you to Dr. Frank Oglesby (Vision Source of Kingsport) for bringing your staff out to close out the season with us! And Double Kudos for doing quarterly outings with employees. IMPRESSIVE!!!

Closing out the year with the final Road Scholar visit in 2019. The water was low but the spirits were high! Many thanks to Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center for including Adventure Mendota! Hope to see you in 2020.

(Labor Day) September 2, 2019. A few more pictures!

Adventure Mendota is closed for the season, and it's now time for fishing! Call Mark King at Fork Fishin' for a customized trip that will meet your needs. Mark especially loves father/son trips, and he'll show you where those smallies are on the North Fork! Call or text 276.591.6959.

[09/03/19]   Labor Day 2019. Thank you to everyone who has supported Adventure Mendota this year and in all of the past years. We greatly appreciate it and look forward to Memorial Day weekend 2020 when we will reopen and begin seeing many of you again. There are still a few pictures that we need to post and we'll try and get that done in the coming day or so. Mike, Eva and the Staff of Adventure Mendota

2019 Labor Day weekend pictures. These are not all of them. We used both a phone and a camera and I"m having a bit of difficulty with the camera.

Saturday, August 24 Many thanks to April (Practice Manager) and these Envision Eye Care employees who came out in SPITE of threatening rain and the fact that we were operating with no electricity! Thank you!! (PS ...they were more determined than we were. We were tired of operating in the dark and closed at noon. Shortly thereafter, of course, the power returned. Sigh)

August 25, 2019 I so appreciate these nice folks (and their wives and kids) who were part of my "work family" at AGC's Abingdon plant bringing their kayaks to kayak with Adventure Mendota Sunday! Chuck Stroup and I started at the Abingdon Coater on October 10, 2005. He's been there 14 years, and I left after about 6 years. I still miss everyone. #chuckstroup #scottyjones #jayjohnson #agc #teamabingdon #lowe

Saturday, August 24. We put a few brave women on this morning, but we will close at noon today (yucky weather and no electricity!) We'll reopen Sunday, August 25, at 10 am. See you tomorrow on the North Fork! #nofo #northfork #adventuremendota

Follow that kayak!! Adventure Mendota will close for 2019 on Labor Day at 6 pm. Head on out and kayak with us before we hang up our paddles!! Call 276.645.1020 for your reservation!! XOXO Eva

Our 2019 kayak season comes to an end at 6 pm on Labor Day! We'd love to have you kayak with us this year! There is still plenty of space (we have LOTS of those Jackson Rivi kayaks!). Please call 276.645.1020 for your reservation!

August 18, 2019. Candice and Mark held down the fort today, and I spent a day with my "River" dog. He needed special lovins today and I made sure he got it! He's such a baby. Thank you for all of the folks who came out!!

August 17, 2019. I put up the morning pictures and the evening pictures from yesterday but I forgot the middle! Here they are! Thank you to these "middle folks" who kayaked with us!

August 17, 2019. We started out early this morning with a good group from Pleasant View UMC in Abingdon. Thank you to Hunter Bradley for working so hard to get these nice folks on the river with us!

Woodland Hills Christian shimmering as they head out into the sunset and later under the stars.

Woodland Hills Christian Church of Abingdon heading out under the stars. They offered a prayer of gratitude prior to getting on the river and invited Him along.

August 17, 2019. First launch!! Thank you!
