It's Flashback Friday!
This year Erin was blessed to have been able to take her Dad out on a Father/Daughter trail ride!
Winter wonderland! ❄️
Horse Whiskers and Snowflakes!😍
Happy New Year!

2022 is a big year for our sweet LadyBug! LadyBug turns 30 this year!!!

Our horse's needs always come first, and we know that all of our horses desire to have a purpose. So though LadyBug is "Retired," we have allowed her to go on easy trail rides with our smallest riders. πŸ₯°
- Dream Walker -

My heart pounds in rhythm with your hoof beats.

My hands tremble as does the ground you walk on.

My eyes are closed but I can see all of your beauty.

My thoughts run wild when you walk into my dreams.

Meet our lovely horse, Dancer! Dancer has not only become a great fit into our horse program, but she is also a rare, black-dun color called "Grulla."

Like a typical "Dun," Dancer has a stripe down her spine called a "Dorsal stripe," and her legs, head, and shoulders hold onto a black color all year long where the rest of her body will fade into different shades of a dark slate grey color.
Here is a fun throwback to a couple of summers ago!
πŸŽ„May you have a most wonderful, and special day! Merry Christmas from your friends at Wild At Heart Horse Rides! ❄️

We are so very thankful for our awesome slow feeders! Slow feeders allow horses to naturally "Graze" as if they were in a pasture.

When a horse can eat consistently throughout the day, it helps prevent stomach ulcers.

Did you know that a horse's (or mule's) body shape can tell you if they are a confident or a fearful equine?

Horses that have a "U" shaped neck are typically fearful horses. The "U" shape is formed when the horse raises its head in an alert position so frequently that it builds the muscles under the neck.

A horse that has less muscle tone under its neck and or has a thicker muscle on the top of its neck is likely a confident horse that rarely needs to raise its head in an alarmed position.

Fun Fact - do you know why horse riders mount and dismount from the left side of a horse?

This dates back to the medieval time when Knights were more often right-handed and would keep their swords on their left side. When they would go to mount their warhorses, they needed to mount on the horse's side from where their sword would not get in the way.

For those who don't know our handsome Duke, he has been with us for many years now, here at WAHHR.

Like many of our horses, Duke's story was a sad one that involved his previous owner giving up on him and sending him to a slaughterhouse.

We are unsure of what exact bloodlines Duke has, but it appears that he is a mix of Thoroughbred and Morgan.

Duke is in his early to mid-20s and is known as the "Go-getter." This sweet boy's personality is goofy in that he is either all in or not when it comes to how enthusiastic he is about a trail ride.

This gentle giant is great with children and is one of our big "Foodie fans!"

We are so happy that Duke got a second chance at life and that he gets to live a fantastic life now!

The next time you come to Wild At Heart Horse Rides, you can pick Duke out of the herd by his beautiful, light chestnut coat and his tall height!

How do we pick our horses for our Wild At Heart Horse Rides? Well for starters, a lot of our horses are rescue horses. But just because they are a rescue horses, that does not mean they are able to fit into our program.

Riding a horse with friends, and having a whole string of trustworthy trail horses are two VERY different things! That is why our horses go through a series of test/training rides to see if they will even fit into the program.

Once the horse has past these test rides, they are then SLOWLY added into the trail riding string. Even then our guests are not allowed to ride them yet as the horse will continue training with our Wranglers. Typically it is really easy to see right away if the horse will work out for our program.

Then, after ALL of the time and work has been done with the horse, our guests can then enjoy and get to know our new addition!

Fun Fact about our Sir William and Briar's ancestors - Percherons were used as War Horses. The horse needed to be small enough for a Knight to mount while wearing his heavy armor, but the horse had to be extra strong to bear that much weight on its back.

They later bred the Percherons to be bigger so that they could pull carts and plow fields.
