Wild At Heart Horse Rides

Comments

This is what horse riding is all about!
We have a handsome new addition to our herd! This guy used to be a past wild Mustang! Now he is trained and is used to humans!

We love mustangs because they are strong, sure-footed, and are a little more intelligent than a raised domestic horse.

BUT, we don't have a name picked out yet! Do you have any name suggestions?

This may not be considered "Horse yoga," but our riders sure enjoyed their handstand contest after their ride!🤣
Don't be surprised when riding at Wild At Heart Horse Rides if a human goes flying over your head! The Leavenworth Zip Lines have their exciting zip line course right overhead!

Can you see one of them up in the tree?
It is always an adventure taking the horses out on the trails. You never know what you might discover - like this moment when a fallen tree had blocked our path!
Birds love to hang out with horses because horses draw in various bugs that the birds love to devour!
We had a surprise snowstorm come through! I guess winter did not want to end just yet!
It will forever amaze me the fierceness yet the absolute gentleness of a massive horse!
"My first time riding a horse in October 2021 with Albin! He’s such a unique horse with a corky personality. My husband and I will be returning this year and maybe we’ll get to ride Albin and Bojangles again!"

When is it the best time to book your spring rides so that you can view stunning wild Lupine?

The small Lupine usually blooms around the end of May and early June. The taller, darker field Lupine arrives in mid-June.

Part #2 How to overcome your fear of riding?

Even if you are not nervous, the first thing you should always do is to breathe! Breathing not only gets you into a healthier, happier, and more relaxed state but also transfers over to the horse through your body language.

The next thing is to focus on is setting small goals for yourself. If we set too high a goal, we might not even attempt to go near a horse.

If the situation is safe, the horse is safe, and you are safe - then proceeding to simply sit on the horse's back is a great place to start!

We will often then feel proud of ourselves at that moment and feel ready to ask the horse to "walk on."

Another thing you can do to overcome your fear is to ride one of our horses.

Our horses are very used to nervous riders because we get a lot of first-time riders, and our horses have learned to ignore the rider's nervous vibes.

Part #1 - How do you overcome your fear of riding?

Many people are fearful of riding a horse for legit reasons, horses are big animals!

But a lot of us battle with past bad memories from scary moments with a horse.

How do you get back on a horse after a traumatic experience?

It's important to ask yourself the following questions:

- Do I want this? Because if it is not worth it to you to ride a horse again then it is okay to walk away!

- Is it safe and am I safe? Sometimes we need a trainer to get involved when the horse we are riding becomes dangerous or unpredictable. Other times we need to realize our own physical limitations due to previous or current injuries.

Of course, there are many other questions one should consider and every situation with rider and horse is extremely different from the other. So always seek out advice from people you trust who have experience in this area.

We take great care, here at Wild At Heart Horse Rides, to train and work with our horses so that they are safe and dependable, helping fearful riders become confident and build better memories! Stay tuned for part #2 on how to overcome your fear of riding!

In a world that seems to be filled with fear, pain, and confusion - it is good to know that there is still a place you can go to, to get away from it all. That place is on the back of a horse!

"Where do we begin at explaining our amazing experience... The facility was easy to find and was beautiful upon first impression. The landscaping was immaculate and the scenery breathtaking.

Early on we met Jason. If our conversations with Jason were an early gauge of what the rest of the day would become, we knew this was going to be an amazing day.

After we met our 'wrangler' Schyler and the horses we began instruction. It was very informative for a beginning rider (like myself) and a great refresher for an experienced one (like my husband). From there we mounted our assigned horses and began our hour and a half hour trek.

The trails were incredible. The horses are well trained and know the trails well. Our assigned trail was well thought out as the fall colors and scenery were spectacular. The conversation with our guide Schyler and points of interest being explained was an aspect that only added to this great experience.

In short, if you are looking for an amazing horseback riding experience look further than Wild At Heart."

Why do we love rope halters?

Rope halters have become very popular over the last ten years for their Equine friendly comfort.

Unlike the old nylon and metal halters, rope halters have knots on them to better control and communicate with a horse. These knots don't hurt the horse, but only give a more direct pressure point on their nose.

Rope halters are lightweight, can easily fit under a bridle, and are less hot for a horse during the summer months.

However, not all rope halters are created equal and people often have to pay a large amount of money to buy the right halter that fits their horse. Thankfully I found a company that has both top-quality rope and is affordable!

Please check out @knotty.girlz for more information on their halters!

Pal, one of our "Second-hand" slaughterhouse rescue horses has been in the program even before Wild At Heart Horse Rides started!

Erin was a wrangler for the equine outfitting company that Pal worked at. Once she started WAHHR, she took Pal on as one of her trail horses.

Pal is often known for being slow, but he is as trustworthy and calm as they come! 😃

Why do we use mounting blocks?

All of our riders use a mounting block regardless of their height.

It is very common for a rider to pull on the saddle horn as they pull themselves up onto a horse. This, over time, can cause a horse's back to get sore.

Our mounting block helps our riders feel safer, more confident and keeps our horses happy!
