I remember, like it was yesterday...my son was in kindergarten, my daughter was napping upstairs. I had just turn on the tv to watch the end of Good Morning America, when the news broke in with the live shot of the first crash. I quickly called my sister as she had many friends who traveled to NYC often daily. As I was panicking into the phone, we literally watched the second plane hit, live on tv. I don't think we said anything for a very long time..... just watched and held the phone to our ears all morning long....I will NEVER forget. Where were you?

I'm getting this comment, question, concern quite a bit, as I'm sure you can understand and see why....however, as truth be told, this would go for the same with any school system, nursing home, rehab centers, large concerts, large conferences...any place that would have a person to person contact with many people in the same place. The only place that truly has to report any type of these illnesses are the cruise industry, which they all do, and then they get the bad press for it, but everyone needs to look at the entire picture. Cruises are not for everyone, that's for sure, however, they are not the cause of illness.
This is a great perspective from Arnold Donald CEO of Carnival Cruise Corp (which owns Holland America, Princess Cruise Lines, Carnival Cruise Lines, as well as others)

โ€œCruise ships are not the cause of the virus nor are they the reason for the spread in society,โ€ he said, adding that regulations require the industry to report illnesses. โ€œWe report; we provide all the information. Airport terminals, not so much. Subway stations, not so much. Restaurants, not so much. Hotels, not so much.โ€
Cruise ships do have health protocols in place, with health screenings before boarding, hand sanitizer stations, signs urging hand-washing, and onboard medical clinics. Once the coronavirus began to spread, cruise lines strengthened screenings and did temperature scans.
The industry works with the CDC, WHO and other health authorities and will comply with new protocols being developed, he said.

US Senators: Airlines must give full cash refunds for COVID-19 cancellations

Airlines are not being fair, in most cases, during this very trying time. They need to refund people due to disruptions in travel and need to stop limiting the use of their "credits". THANK YOU to these Senators that have joined the forces of ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents) in this fight for refunds!!
When our hands are tied from the airlines and we have to be the person telling our clients they will not be refunded for their flights, it makes for a very difficult part of our jobs especially when we believe that they should be.

Millions of travelers currently have flights scheduled with the major airlines that are either canceled or allowed to cancel with no airline fees. Most US Airlines are not providing refunds but travel credits that must either be used within one year of the date the ticket was purchased (which means as early as April this year) or by year end.

Millions of people who bought tickets last year will be unable to use these credits because ruey cannot travel by those time frames- especially those that have lost their jobs due to Covid-19. And airlines will keep that money that should rightfully go to consumers who have been forced to stay home due to no fault of their own.

We are asking you to require airlines requesting Covid-19 funds to offer a minimum credit good for one year from the original travel date. The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) is requesting two years. We understand that the airlines cannot afford refunds, but they can be fair with extending the credits.

We are also asking you to require airlines to allow customers who canceled flights before the airline waived fees for their same flight to refund cancellation fees. Airlines should not be profiting off the misfortune that is occurring due to this pandemic.
