Did you know that henna has been around for thousands of years? Although its exact origin is unknown, henna can be found historically in Indian, African, and Arabic countries. Henna, also known as mehndi, is made from crushed leaves of the henna plant. Most popularly known as a way to temporarily decorate bodies with beautiful, detailed designs, henna is used in other ways as well, such as sunblock, deodorant, clothing and hair dye, and more.

Henna kits can be ordered online or purchased from local henna artists and can be a fun activity at home! Inspire yourself by looking at different designs and notice how these designs vary by culture.

You might recognize this penguin from the movie "Surf's Up." Those distinct spunky yellow feathers on their heads help rockhoppers identify other penguins of the same species. The rockhopper penguin is just 1 of 7 penguin species that belong to the crested penguin family. They got their name "rockhopper" because they enjoy hopping around while they're on rocky shorelines. You can find these adorable creatures from the Sub-Antarctic Islands to the southern tip of South America to New Zealand.

Reading is a great way to escape and to feel like we're traveling afar even if we're staying safe at home. Are you traveling from Spain to Egypt learning life lessons like Santiago in, "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho; are you going deep into the Amazon jungle trying to find a lost city like in "The Lost City of Z," by David Grann; or are you traveling the world, sailing on the Pacific Ocean like Torre DeRoche did in her memoir, "Love With a Chance of Drowning"?

Whatever you're reading right now, we hope you're traveling somewhere that inspires you!

These simple, yet powerful poems are a great activity whether you're trying to teach your child about different cultures or if you're looking for more outlets to flex your own creativity. If you want, share a Haiku in the comments, either one you've written or one of your favorites from another poet - we could all use some nature-inspired work while we anticipate returning to it ourselves.

As we navigate these uncertain times, it’s more important than ever to stay home and stay safe.
