Seaglass House, where you can Rest & Relax, swim, bike, kayak, or just stroll along the beaches watching seagulls fly, is a fully-furnished home with all the fixings for dinner parties and crab feasts, board games, family reunions, girls weekends, Navy football games, or beach vacations. It is situated on a beautiful, peaceful peninsula surrounded by beaches and the Chesapeake Bay.
It’s been a long, stressful year for everyone. Take a few days to chill by the Bay in the land of gracious living!

Bay Ridge/Annapolis are wonderful places to visit/spend time in & we know that many want to escape the city heat & the strain from the pandemic this summer. Seaglass House is being very careful with our bookings - spacing them several days apart and doing thorough cleanings. We are open to stays of a week or more in summer and, as COVID calms down, durations of 3-4 days during the beautiful fall season. Spring & Summer will be here in no time - think jumping off the jetty for a swim, having a crab feast in the back yard, catching fire flies at night, watching the moonrise over the Bay...

Feeling the heat? We still have 2 glorious 4-day summer beach weekends open: July 20 & August 4th. And Labor Day. So flee the hot city & come chill in one of the prettiest beach communities in the US!

One of the oldest classic beach cottages still remaining in Bay Ridge, Seaglass House By-the-Bay was built in 1939 as a summer home for a Washington DC-based couple. It has been owned by the Ritterbush family since the mid-1950's. During this era, there were far fewer homes and many more woods that teemed with wildlife (rabbits, deer, foxes, possum, raccoons, squirrels).
Only about 40 resourceful families lived in the neighborhood year-round back then and the pace of life was relaxed, neighborly and nature-oriented. Free time was spent bird-watching, biking, fishing, boating, exploring adjacent forests, community wreath-making and sledding in the winter, making May Day baskets in the spring, potluck suppers, card games, Turkey Bowl football games at Thanksgiving and nightly carol singing at Christmas. It was a place you knew you could rely on your neighbor if you were sick, alone, needed a babysitter in an emergency or assistance when the power went out during hurricanes and snow blizzards.
In the summer months, Bay Ridge's population swelled as 'summer trash' (a nickname of endearment, really!) returned. Then the feel of the peninsula changed exponentially as everyone's attention turned to "Fun." Water skiing on the lake, crabbing off the jetties, bonfire parties, buying Fudgesicles from the ice cream truck, waving to passing mosquito truck drivers (as they sprayed repellant all over us!), racing in swim meets at the old Bay Ridge Pool and teen dances at the club house. And on most nights, the streets filled with laughter coming from card games and story-telling on screened porches.
Seaglass House offers home-stayers a window into the graciousness of this earlier, less complicated and frenetic era. Take advantage of this slower pace and just enjoy being with each other and with yourselves.
