Once you go to the Holy Land you will never be the same. There is no place like it on earth. You can stand at the places the Bible speaks of and read what happened there two to three years ago.

Walking With The Prophets

There are 3 small rivers in Israel that feed the Jordan River. This is one of them named the Dan River that flows through the middle of Tel Dan. BTW this is where Abraham came to written about in Genesis 15 and where the Tribe of Dan finally settled. Dan is right up against Mt. Hermon and this mountain feeds each River with ice cold snow melt runoff. Some springs the River is roaring at other time it's slower according to the amount of snow on Hermon. I took this film last May. Look us up on the web at www.walkingwiththeprophets.com . Ever Christian needs to go at least one time in their lives.

[02/13/16]   The Heart of Jerusalem
February 4, 2016
What is it that kindles and stirs the heart to return to Jerusalem? This city of Gold, a city shrouded in Holiness, a city of living antiquity.
For me, the inspiration comes from the simplest of things. Possibly, the fragrance of Rosemary or Cardamom while cooking dinner. Or the illumination of a candle in a dark room, even the tapestry displayed in a department store. These are small and somewhat insignificant, but there is a deep longing for this City, that nothing else will satisfy… save only it’s very presence.
The first time I entered Jerusalem, it was just before sunset… on a crisp autumn evening. The lights of the city were as beautiful as I had imagined. The skyline was lit with an ambiance of modern architecture, along with the historical and ancient walls from previous centuries. From Mt. Scopus, the panoramic view will cause a quick gasp. But it will also bring you to tears, as you feel in your heart the warmth and security of finally coming to a place called “Home” immersed with in the past and present.
Some would say without reservation that it is the center of the world, the birthplace of humanity itself. Created for good, but more often ending in conflict and destruction. Hardly a City of Peace as it is named for.
The evidence of three Monotheistic religions, were visually represented in the city. The gates and walls that once surrounded the magnificent Temple that Solomon built were as a fortress protecting the very presence of God and those within. The Holy Sepulcher that enshrines the tomb of Jesus of Nazareth can be seen. As well as the Dome of the Rock housing a stone which according to Islam is believed to be where the prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven. In Judaism, the stone is the site where Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac. The most holy site for the Jewish people would be the Western Wall… Kotel ha-Ma’aravi. A remnant of what was the most sacred place… surrounding the Temple, where the very presence of God resided.
There are many compelling sites, connected to each of these religions that have significant value. It’s hard to separate the spiritual from the mundane in this city that is hallowed. I think for me, because it is the City of our God, the City of our Great King and He has invested His name there… that is what grips my heart.
Countless alleys and labyrinth style passages take you thru the four quarters of Jerusalem. Some very congested with pilgrims, who are there as tourists. As well as established business owners, selling their goods for the common people who live here, children on their way home from school each day. All, surrounded by uniformed soldiers, preserving and protecting from threats or danger.
One of my most memorable sites would be the Rabbi’s Tunnels. It is place where faith, history and culture merge together. You will find worshipers here day and night without ceasing. Most of the original wall is beneath the streets, with some of the most massive stones ever discovered. The largest weighing over 500 tons, 42 feet long 12 and a half feet high and some say 15 feet deep. The main passage way is very narrow and damp and you feel as if you have been transported back in time… walking the narrow streets as Jesus once did.
At the end, you come to a large pool, the Struthion. This collected rain water for use in the Temple.
As you exit into the daylight, you find yourself on the street well known as the “Via Dolorosa”… traditionally the way of suffering, as Jesus was lead to Golgotha, the final place of His passion.
Another favorite is always the Southern Steps of the Temple. The steps we are told are the Rabbi’s teaching steps where Rabbi’s would teach there follower’s before ascending into the Temple Court’s themselves. Today, much excavation that allows for travelers to experience in this area can be seen. The original double and triple gates are visible , but sealed completely. The magnificent pillars that once lined the royal porticos lay in heaps as they were left after the destruction by the Romans. In my mind’s eye, I imagine it as in the time of Yeshua. How He made his way, with his parents up these steps that are of different widths that causes the pilgrim to be in complete reverence before entering this Holy place. To worship the God of Israel that was required of the Jews during the three major Feasts. Then, as He possibly taught there, and as Peter did after the resurrection, while some 3,000 souls were saved and baptized. Ancient Biblical history comes to life.
One can’t miss probably the most significant place of the city, the Mount of Olives. It is the highest point of a long ridge of hills running along the eastern most part of Jerusalem, beside the Kidron Valley. Its name reflects the hillside, once covered with olive trees. Now, it overlooks a cemetery.
Jesus ascension into heaven was from this mountain, as He gave his disciples their commission. To “go ye therefore, into all the world…” with the gospel of truth. At the end of the age, He will once again, descend from His righteous throne, and set foot back on this mountain and it will cleave in two… before the final victory over the forces of evil.
As you stand there, gazing across the valley, you are humbled by the magnitude of what your eyes are fixed on. Before you is not just a basin for the dead, but an ancient past, an existing present… and a foreseen future. What a small glimpse of eternity, and a New Jerusalem. The Eastern Gate stands majestically strong, but sealed… awaiting the return of Messiah.
In the evening, after hours and many wonderful sites experienced, one can only end his or her day in Jerusalem strolling thru the ancient Cardo area. The fresh and warm aromas of coffee, spices, sweets and treats will give a long and lasting memory… one not easily forgotten. I love so much to visit the many book stores, Judaic tapestry, jewelry, glass and most notable… the art shops. Those filled with so many displays of local artists depicting Jewish life in the Old City and surrounding country side.
As you pillow your head to sleep that night, you feel as if you have been transported back thousands of years and then rebound again.
I could never account for all of the sites in this one blog, as it is hard to minimize 4,000 years of history in a few short pages. And there are countless yet to see. I have placed on my right hand… a ring that inscribes in Hebrew. Psalm 137:5-6 “If I forget you O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget her skill. Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy.” May the journey never end!

[12/20/11]   “Who am I?”
By Dietrich Bonhoeffer (March 4, 1945)

Who am I? They often tell me
I would step from my cell’s confinement
calmly, cheerfully, firmly,
like a squire from his country-house.

Who am I? They often tell me
I would talk to my wardens
freely and friendly and clearly,
as though it were mine to command.

Who am I? They also tell me
I would bear the days of misfortune
equably, smilingly, proudly,
like one accustomed to win.

Am I then really all that which other men tell of?
Or am I only what I know of myself?
restless and longing and sick, like a bird in a cage,
struggling for breath, as though hands were
compressing my throat,
yearning for colours, for flowers, for the voices of birds,
thirsting for words of kindness, for neighborliness,
trembling in expectation of great events,
powerlessly trembling for friends at an infinite distance,
weary and empty at praying, at thinking, at making,
faint, and ready to say farewell to it all?

Who am I? This or the other?
Am I one person today, and tomorrow another?
Am I both at once? A hypocrite before others,
and before myself a contemptibly woebegone weakling?
Or is something within me still like a beaten army,
fleeing in disorder from victory already achieved?

Who am I? They mock me, these lonely questions of mine.
Whoever I am, Thou knowest, O God, I am Thine.

–Dietrich Bonhoeffer, “Who am I?” in Letters & Papers From Prison
