Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve

With the enactment of the continuing resolution, staff at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve resumed regular operations today. The park and preserve are open 24/7, and the visitor center is open 9-4:30 every day of the week. Roads and sidewalks are now cleared of snow, but please watch for remaining icy patches. We want to thank the visitors who carried out their own trash and tried to keep the park clean during the shutdown. Great Sand Dunes employees are happy to be back at work, serving the American people and welcoming visitors to their national park!

The Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge in southern Colorado is a wonderful place to practice wildlife photography. Just near the visitor's center we could see a variety of birds and a beaver swimming in a pond, while in the distance we heard the yips and howls of coyotes! The morning is definitely the best time to visit as the sun rises over the mountains and the animals are very active.

Wildlife viewing should definitely be at the top of your list when you Visit Alamosa Colorado during your next vacation!
