Had the pleasure of receiving a suprise package of a few dozen thank you letters from the 1st graders of Dorothy Lewis Middle School! The students toured the Manor last week and had the cutest things to say about their visit. Here's one example... We love our school groups! It's so nice to know that they love Stan Hywet too!
Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is the former American Country Estate of F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. It is one of the finest examples of Tudor Revival architecture in America. The Seiberlings chose architect Charles S. Schneider to design their home for $150,000. Schneider and the Seiberlings travelled to England and visited well-known homes including Ockwell’s Manor in Berkshire, Compton Wynyates in Warwickshire and Haddon Hall in Derbyshire. All three influenced the design for Stan Hywet. Do you recognize the similarities?
An enormous amount of detail went into constructing Stan Hywet, including 3,000 separate blueprints and architectural drawings for its design. The groundbreaking took place in early 1912 and the Seiberling family moved in just in time for Christmas in 1915.
Curious to learn more? Group of ten or more guests will receive 25% of the general admission cost on all daily tour options.
