Explore the winter season ❄️ of Gilgit-Baltistan

In response to rising demand from domestic tourists looking to visit gorgeous Gilgit Baltistan (GB) during the current tourism season, private airlines are planning to provide direct flights to Skardu shortly.

The demand for air travel has recently increased dramatically since many people from all over the country desire to view the region’s lush green valleys, meadows, flowing waterfalls, and snow-capped mountains.

The authorities are providing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to private airlines to meet the growing demand for air travel and boost tourism in the region. Raja Nasir Ali Khan, the Minister for Tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan, confirmed the news, saying, “Air Blue is set to commence flights for Skardu from mid-August.”

He told the press that North Air has recently received NOC to run its operations. “If any private airline wants to come to GB, we will provide complete support,” he added, adding that the PIA had already been flying multiple flights to Skardu every week from other towns throughout Pakistan.

He noted that Faisalabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Sialkot were among the places from which the PIA operated flights to Skardu. Every week, three flights from Lahore and Karachi, two each from Faisalabad and Sialkot, one from Multan, and one from Islamabad, were conducted based on demand.

Already famed for its civil engineering marvel, the Karakoram Highway (KKH) has now been ranked among the 15 most beautiful roads of the world for its scenic beauty. In its categorisation, Wikicampers, a website providing tourist services in different parts of the world, called the KKH an “ideal setting for the most dizzying road trip.”

“Let’s gain altitude again by taking the second highest asphalt road in the world,” the website said explaining the features of the road.
The KKH connects China to Pakistan while crossing the Karakoram mountain range and running alongside certain peaks over 7,000 metres in height.
The highway is around 1,300KM long which extends from Hasan Abdal to the Khunjrab Pass in Gilgit-Baltistan, where it crosses into China.

In its documentary, BBC had also called the KKH as one of the highest paved roads on earth which was major trade route between Pakistan and China. It also said the road was completely developed, smooth and safe.

The government of Punjab has floated a tender for a 123km long tourism expressway, with the project expected to cost more than Rs4 billion and attain completion within 30 months.

The expressway will stretch from Pindori Chowk in Kalar Syedan, enabling travellers to journey all the way to Lower Topa in Murree.

Upon completion, the road is set to be touted as the new ‘tourism corridor’ between Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Galiyat. Five major roads from Azad Kashmir, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, GB and other cities will be connected to the expressway. The work order for the project is slated to be issued in the first week of November.

MNA Sadaqat Ali Abbasi, who proposed the project, told that the construction of the tourism expressway will create new employment opportunities in four mountainous tehsils of the Rawalpindi district.
