Hurricane Maria Update:
The Government of the Dominican Republic has issued a Hurricane Watch from Isla Saona to Puerto Plata, and a Tropical Storm Watch west of Puerto Plata to the northern Dominican Republic-Haiti border.
A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area. A watch is typically issued 48 hours before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force winds, conditions that make outside preparations difficult or dangerous.
A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours. From http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT5+shtml/182048.shtml

Thank you..and once again, STAY SAFE.

The situation in the Dominican Republic after Hurricane Irma:
The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism reports that the country's tourist destinations were not negatively affected by Hurricane Irma and are up-and-running as usual. All airports, seaports, highways, tourist attractions, and hotels in all major destinations, such as Punta Cana / Bávaro, Samaná, Sosúa, Cabarete, Puerto Plata, La Romana / Bayahibe, Juan Dolio, Santo Domingo and others are operating normally.
We’re happy to continue to welcome guest from all over the world to Dominican Republic. More information: rebrand.ly/newsra678

To all our friends and clients who have written, called, and contacted us during Hurricane Irma: THANK YOU for your prayers and good wishes! We were spared the hurricane-level winds and rain since Irma continued its path more to the North and passed about 95 miles from Cap Cana. We are docked in the safest spot in the country and thankfully received only tropical-storm wind gusts and rain. Our fleet is safe and sound and we will be ready for some serious fishing once the weather dies down!
As far as we know, things are ok in Punta Cana, La Romana and Santo Domingo. We have limited updates from our various team members who are in these 3 locations and who have all told us that they are fine and that no major damages were caused by Irma.
We don't know about the north coast or anywhere else in the Dominican Republic as we are not there nor have we heard anything from these locations. We hope everyone is OKAY!
Prepare for Hurricane Irma... from https://www.ready.gov/hurricanes
There are no real updates on Hurricane Irma, except that she keeps moving at the same strength - category 5. She'll hit the Dominican Republic sometime between tonight and tomorrow morning. We're hoping for the best!
Hurricane Irma HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
STORM SURGE: The combination of a life-threatening storm surge and large breaking waves will raise water levels ABOVE NORMAL TIDE LEVELS by the following amounts within the hurricane warning area near and to the north of the center of Irma. Near the coast, the surge will be accompanied by large and destructive waves.
* Northern coast of the Dominican Republic...3 to 5 ft
The combination of a life-threatening storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. The water is expected to reach the following HEIGHTS ABOVE GROUND if the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide... From http://www.nhc.noaa.gov / Image from www.wunderground.com
"At 8:00 AM AST (1200 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Irma was located near latitude 18.1 North, longitude 63.3 West. Irma is moving toward the west-northwest near mph (26 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days.
On the forecast track, the extremely dangerous core of Irma will move over portions of the northern Virgin Islands today, pass near or just north of Puerto Rico this afternoon or tonight, and pass near or just north of the coast of the Dominican Republic Thursday.
Maximum sustained winds remain near 185 mph (295 km/h) with higher gusts."

As of 2 pm EDT Tuesday, Irma’s top sustained winds were an incredible 185 mph. The only hurricane anywhere in the Atlantic ever known to have stronger winds was Allen (1980), at 190 mph." * Puerto Rico, Vieques, and Culebra
* DOMINICAN REPUBLIC from Cabo Engano to the northern border with Haiti
A Hurricane Warning means that hurricane conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area. A warning is typically issued 36 hours before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force winds, conditions that make outside preparations difficult or dangerous. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued from south of Le Mole St. Nicholas to Port-Au-Prince. From http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT1+shtml/051445.shtml
MUST SEE! Irma is now a category 5 hurricane!
Hurricane Irma is now a category 5 (!) major hurricane with winds of 180 mph and gusts of 220 mph.
This is the worst we've ever seen in our time in the Dominican Republic - since 2004.
If you are in Irma's path, we urge you to get out of harms way and leave the area, if possible and as soon as possible.
BE SAFE! BE SMART! 🙏🏻

Hurricane Irma Update:
"Based on Hurricane Hunter measurements, NHC raised Irma's top sustained winds at 5:00 pm EDT to 130 mph, making it a Category 4 storm.
Irma is expected to be a major Category 4 hurricane when it passes very close to the northern Lesser Antilles Islands on Tuesday, near Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on Wednesday, and the Turks and Caicos Islands and Hispaniola on Thursday".
#hurricaneirma #irma #weatherforecast #weatherupdate #dominicanrepublic #puntacana #hispaniola #noaa
"Hurricane Irma is on a track that could bring it near the Leeward Islands by Wednesday and into the Eastern Bahamas by Friday. Hurricane watches were issued Sunday afternoon by the governments of Antigua, France, and the Netherlands on Sunday afternoon for the islands of Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, Saba, St. Eustatius, Sint Maarten/St. Martin, and Saint Barthelemy.
With any luck, Irma’s center and its more dangerous right-hand side will stay just north of the Leewards, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola. However, Irma is expected to be a powerhouse Category 4 hurricane by that point, so high winds, huge surf, and torrential rains could occur well away from its center.
It appears increasingly likely that Irma’s wrath will be focused on parts of The Bahamas late next week, and a major hurricane landfall along the U.S. East Coast is a distinct possibility by Sunday or Monday."

Good morning from Punta Cana ☀️
We were told that The Weather Channel is not an accurate source of weather information (!), so we're bringing you the latest image of Hurricane Irma from The National Hurricane Center @noaa
She's still looking pretty strong and steady. The orange circle is the location of the center of the hurricane.
The black dot with the M inside shows the movement of the center as a Tropical Cyclone with sustained winds of more than 110 mph (I.e. a major hurricane).
The forecast cone is not 100% certain and may, of course, change with time.
