My heart is happy. To see my daughter Sophie engaging with her Nonna, as they create a scrapbook together of special people, places and events in her life.
She never ceases to amaze me. At 89 years young and eternally beautiful. #mymamma
I love lunch times with mum. We eat, we laugh, we gossip (always gossip!!) and reminisce. In this short video, Mamma is paying tribute to her father who was a goat herder, and his goats.
The people, the food, the journey. These three sentiments are the key elements of my annual culinary tours to Sicily. It all began with the first photo. My heart was drawn to this black and white image when I was about 8 years of age. It was my favourite photo in my parent’s collection of family albums. I always thought the woman on the right dressed in black was my paternal grandmother. It certainly looked like her. As I was only 6 when my Nonna passed away, I would look at this image and dream that I was one of those children at the table under a beautiful tree in Sicily, feasting on a home cooked meal made by her. As the years progressed it was revealed to me that it wasn’t Nonna, but it was actually her sister, my Zia Mariantonia. What a glorious name - Maria Antonia! This tree was still in the family! I just had to find it, so in 2011 on my reconnaissance tour I asked around in the village and a dear distant cousin Michelangelo drove me to the property which for years had preoccupied my imagination and fed my soul. Alas, the day after my father took this photo in January 1968, the property was destroyed by an earthquake, so as I wandered around 43 years later, searching for the tree all I could do was continue to imagine the people, the food and the journeys made by my family to this splendid country side they called “Binnardo” - their summer home. The coloured images that follow reveal my sadness, yet my very own journey where I began to politely introduce myself to my beloved Sicily, and discover her authentic expressions, sublime landscapes, silence and tranquility amongst the hills and valleys, abandoned buildings and seduction. Oh yes! Sicily is seductive. My Sicilian table in my mind was complete and I couldn’t wait to get back home and begin working on a dream to bring as many of you as possible to this wondrous island! The people, the food and your journey awaits. I’m here to guide you, if you’ll let me! #rosastableculinarytourofsicily @ Rosa's Table photos by Michael Malignaggi

It’s taken me more than a day to process the loss of our dear uncle Sebastiano, affectionately known to us as Zio Yianno. Zio is my father in law’s first cousin. To me he was my uncle, my heart. Each time I have visited Sicily, he welcomed me with open arms and held me tight as if he just couldn’t let go! To be honest, I didn’t want him to. I felt safe and ever so loved with each embrace. Sometimes we would just sit next to each other and hold hands, no need for words, just simple unconditional love and kindness. My favourite days with him were spent in his little patch of paradise, his precious orange grove which produced the most delicious oranges in Sicily. I feel privileged to have introduced many of you to this gentle soul throughout our travels. Rest In Peace my dear, magnificent Zio. Thank you for welcoming us all to your garden and table of earthly delights. @ Rosa's Table
I love these two! #mammaandmyamore @doc_gastronomia Mornington

Buon Natale, Merry Christmas from our table to yours. Peace, health and kindness to you all for 2020.
Christmas chicken stuffing. Spanish onion diced, crushed garlic, currents, pine nuts, chopped almonds, lemon zest, parsley and diced plums all gently fried in a little olive oil and a mighty festive drizzle of balsamic vinegar. I then add a few sprinklings of fresh breadcrumbs and Grana Padano cheese, stuff the fillets and tie them like little parcels. They make the perfect Christmas gift!!
Just a selection of Marcella’s Christmas cookies!

Christmas almond biscotti. The recipient of these biscotti told me they tasted just like the ones her Nonna used to make and that brought back beautiful memories for her. This joy, this stirring of emotions that creating with food brings will always make me smile. It’s my happy and safe place. #grattitude

I grew up playing with my cousin’s cousins! You may remember me mentioning some of them at my cooking demonstrations. I have often referred to Il Melegrano in Northcote. Now we are fortunate to have this little pop up Italian artistry space in Mornington. Carl makes wonderful gelato, different and unique flavour combinations like orange ricotta and chocolate and rosemary! All delicious and a beautiful space to just sit on a sunshiny day and watch the busy Christmas shoppers do their thing. Marcello’s wood roasted coffee is also being served! Enjoy!
✨ GOOD MORNINGTON! ✨

I’m excited to introduce you to Feudo Bauly Hotel in Palazzolo Acreide Sicily. @feudobaulyhotel It’s a new addition to the next #rosastableculinarytourofsicily. A tranquil and charming hotel once used as a home to a succession of barons. Its origin is from the 16th century and throughout time its occupants have transformed, added and reinvigorated its surroundings. In 1915 an aviary was built which now welcomes its guests as the hotel reception area. This beautiful hotel is surrounded by one of Sicily’s most majestic forests. The trees are ancient, standing tall and proud and are waiting to greet you! We will enter the forest in search of the summer truffle. Then, it’s time to cook, eat, drink and just be..... @ Feudo Bauly

Dinner with our mamma and Nonna. Sunshine, laughter and a really big seafood feast! Potatoes sprinkled with a dash of olive oil and parmigiano cheese as well as a mango, avocado, blueberry salad with fresh broad beans from mamma’s garden sprinkled on the top!
The beginnings of a Paella 🥘
The gourmet trail continues with an amazing dinner @veropastawine in Frankston. A very talented young chef makes her own pasta matched perfectly with fresh ingredients. Tiramisù for dessert , so smooth and silky! Very friendly service too. It’s a comfortable space steeped with tradition which reminds me of my mamma’s lounge room, very Italian, it feels like home! Take the family, support local. Thank you @eeny_meeny for the recommendation! @ Vero Pasta + Wine
A little culinary journey through the Mornington Peninsula with mamma today. First stop @johnnyripe for brunch to visit my goddaughter chef Selena, then @torellofarm for some mighty awesome artichokes which we’ll stuff later, last stop, to visit my bro @guymirabella @shopatecafeandstore for cake! Red coat, red lipstick, glowing mamma x
A wander through mamma’s garden this morning leads me to the wild fennel. Made into a pesto with just a dash of olive oil and a large handful of grated parmigiano cheese is the perfect accompaniment to pasta tossed with roughly chopped almonds. #missingsicily @ Somerville, Victoria, Australia
#siciliantiger and thank you Bruce for pronouncing Castagna correctly!
My father Diego would often use the Sicilian phrase “Mi Shalavi” at the end of a meal. It means he had thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience! Hence why I was curious and attracted to the name of this wellness resort situated in a beautiful Sicilian territory on the slope of Mt Etna. Shalai Resort in Linguaglossa is sheer joy, just as the name implies. My post tour research travels have brought me to this wonderland. An old Palazzo redesigned by the owner’s niece (who, coincidentally was born in Australia), and a Michelin star restaurant (the first I’ve ever dined in) completely ooze joy. It’s a symphony as good as one so beautifully played by my daughter Francesca on our 18th century piano. The old and the new harmoniously capable of telling a story to delight all your senses. #changesareacoming #sicily2020 #rosastableculinarytourofsicily #shalairesort @shalairesort @ SHALAI RESORT
