Voyage Armenia

Nuovamente e semplicemente grazie Vahe. Catia

Among the most beloved ceremonies of the Armenian traditional feasts, is the ceremony of Grape Blessing, which is held on Sunday, usually following, or proceeding the August 15. The occasion, on which Armenians celebrate the blessing of grapes is a major feast day, called “Assumption of the St. Mary”. The tradition of blessing grapes, the first fruits of the harvest, can be traced back to the Old Testament, when farming was a common vocation. Of the vast assortment of produce, grapes had a special place and were considered the “first fruits” because they were the first produce of the harvest. With the birth of Jesus, these dedications took on a new meaning. Jesus Christ was the first born, or the first fruit of Mary and as such, was offered to God in the tabernacle (Luke 2:25-30). The Catholicos of all Armenians blesses the grape harvest on that day.

Matenadaran is a place for anyone who’s curious about history, literature, art, and philosophy. In front of the museum, you’ll see a statue of Mesrop Mashtots, the person who invented the Armenian script. Inside, you’ll find ancient texts from around the world, but note that you might want to take a guided tour if you don’t know much about ancient and medieval history.

Sevan Lake is one of the largest lakes in the Caucasus region, whose basin makes up the one-sixth of Armenia’s territory. It is a popular destination for Armenians who tend to spend their hot summers in the area enjoying the sandy beaches and cool waters.

The cross is arguably the most familiar symbol of Christianity; but nowhere is this iconography as crucial or culturally entrenched as it is in Armenia. Wherever you go, thousands of khachkars, or cross-stones, pervade the conscience of the world’s oldest Christian nation, providing a rare glimpse into the art of spiritual expression.

Yerevan Color Run organized at Hamilar Complex in July is fun activity you can participate in.The event starts early in the morning with an energetic fitness warm-up to get ready for the 5km run. The participants are drenched from head to toe in harmless bright colors along the route. It’s an entertaining run, so there’s no timing, rules, and restrictions. However, the three men and three women who come in first at the finish line are awarded a special prize.

The forthcoming International Festival witll take place in September. Balloons from different countries of the world will shine in the sky of the city of Yerevan, creating a fabulous and unforgettable experience for all present. The official opening of the festival will take place on the Republic Square. The primary aim of the festival is contributing to the growth of tourism, small aviation and aeronautics in Armenia.

Pulpulaks – drinkable water fountains- are another pleasant discovery for Armenia’s guests. Deeply rooted in the local culture, these handmade springs gracefully scattered all across Yerevan (and other cities) will feel like oases on a stuffy August afternoon, especially after a long stroll in the city. But they’re more than merely “water suppliers”. Pulpulak is also a unique memorial, homage to a passed-away friend or family member (whose names and images are engraved on the “fountains”). So, once you’re in Armenia, do as Armenians do: give a blessing to the perished while drinking water from a pulpulak and keep on exploring the country.

Despite being a small country, Armenia is very diverse with its adventure options – starting from paragliding and ziplining to finding some of the most recently built hiking trails all over the country. Check out the best adventure places in Armenia to make your most trip in the country!

Ziplining- Check out Yell Extreme Park that has activities, such as horseback riding and off-roading, along with rock climbing, paragliding, and ziplining. The park is one of the most renowned places in the region.

Skiing-Only 50 km from Zvartnots International Airport and close to the capital Yerevan, drive up to Tsaghkadzor Ski Resort. The infrastructure is in good conditions and it is one of the most popular places to go skiing in Armenia. Surrounded by nature, covered in all white, when skiing, you will probably envy your own eyes with what you will see around!

Hiking- Located nearby the capital Yerevan, Mount Ara is towards the middle of the Aragatsotn and Kotayk provinces’ border. The elevation of the mountain is about 2600m and with different seasons there are different activities you can try in the area.
Hiking up to the peak, you can enjoy the unforgettable views of the mountain, radically different from what you may have seen in the other parts of the country. If you don’t feel like hiking the whole peak, drive up to a certain point and enjoy the view from that side.

The Cafesjian Center for the Arts opened its doors to the public back in 2009. This year, the Center celebrates its 10-th anniversary on July 17 at 8 p.m. at the Cafesjian Sculpture Garden․
Armenian State Jazz Orchestra, led by its Artistic Director Armen Hyusnunts, will fill the Cafesjian Sculpture Garden with unforgettable jazz melodies․
The evening will be concluded with spectacular fireworks.

Vardavar water festival presents different games, dances, songs, and of course pouring water on each other. People of all ages take part in this expected holiday, and no one has a chance to escape and stay dry in the streets of Yerevan during this day. However, in the July heat such a holiday of water is exactly what you need. So, if someone pour water on you, do not be offended, because it is much more interesting to pour water in a pail or a mug and become a participant in Vardavar yourself!
In 2019, water festival will be held on July 28th.

Tigran Hamasyan- Love Song

Why Armenians love strangers

"I can say this much: when you encounter hospitality in Armenia, you’re unlikely to forget it".

#Armenia #visit_Armenia Armenians, like their Caucasus neighbours, have long been renowned for generosity to outsiders – a result of the country’s historical location on the Silk Road.
