#Stepanavan #Dendropark is the first botanic garden of Armenia. It was established by Polish engineerforester Edmon Leonovich who had worked as the director of the botanical garden since 1984. Afterwards his son took the position of director. Local climate at dendropark is cool as the area of 1550 meters above the sea level. The collection of plants growing here represents a great variety. Most specimens were acquired from the botanic gardens as part of an international exchange programs with the Botanic Gardens in Tbilisi, Kiev, Moscow as well as Far East. Specimens were also obtained further afield from Germany, France, Portugal, USA.

The collection of plants represents a great scientific development of species in uncommon climatic conditions. For 30 years continuously the scientists had tested 2500 species of plants try to find out those that would survive here. But only 500 species and forms of trees could succeed in growing in the cold climate that belong to 27 families and 115 species including Betula, Juglans, Cedrus deodara, Sequoia, etc.

We will not forget the Armenian Genocide;
We will not submit to it;
We remember and demand.

God bless the Armenian people.🙏🏻

“Statute of limitation does not apply to the crime of genocide. Recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey and elimination of its consequences is a matter of security for Armenia, the Armenian nation, and the region.
We will not forget the Armenian Genocide; we will not submit to its consequences”:
President of RA Armen Sarkissian․

«Преступление Геноцида не имеет срока давности. Признание Турцией Геноцида армян и устранение его последствий - гарантия безопасности для Армении и армянского народа, а также для региона.
Мы не можем забыть Геноцид армян и смириться с его последствиями».

The “#Treasury of #Echmiadzin” museum was designed by architect Baghdasar Arzumanyan and opened to visitors on October 11, 1982. The treasury-museum is a vivid example of new and unique elements in classical Armenian architecture. The “Treasury of Echmiadzin” is named after philanthropists and patrons of art Alec and Maria Manukyans, thanks to whose donations this wonderful project was successfully fulfilled. The bodies of the spouses now rest in the courtyard of the museum.

The museum keeps the relics of the Armenian Church, and also there is a library of Catholicos Garegin I. The samples exhibited in the treasury were brought to the Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin from different parts of the world and Armenian communities. These samples testify the skill and high creative spirit of the Armenian masters of different eras, as well as the unique perception of beauty. The treasury contains many valuable church relics and samples of applied art: bowls, chandeliers, altar curtains, holy relics, patriarchal crosses and wands, church robes embroidered with gold and pearls, ancient Armenian carpets, wooden engravings and numerous ritual objects of gold, silver and ivory delicately decorated with precious stones. Among valuable exhibits of the treasury are manuscripts with their unique miniatures and thinly embroidered bowls. The museum holds a collection of images of Holy Mother of God, which were created by Armenian masters in different epochs of historical Armenia. Also noteworthy are the 17th-century thrones of Catholicos, decorated with pearls and ivory. The treasury features unique sacred relics, including St. Gegard - the sharpest spear with which the centurion pierced the crucified Jesus.

"Hosanna (Praise God)! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!"
One week before the Feast of the Glorious Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the Feast of #PalmSunday, celebrating the Triumphant Entry of Christ into Jerusalem. On this day, Churches are decorated with branches from willow & palm trees.Besides, on the same day there is a special ceremony called "Blessing of kids", after which they happily wear the willow wreaths.

#Dolma is one of the traditional #Armenian dishes. The main ingredients are minced meat and rice, which are wrapped in grape or cabbage leaves, sometimes even stuffed in green pepper or eggplant. There are different recipes to make dolma, but no matter what recipe you choose the taste is guaranteed. It is hard not to fall in love with this incredible dish.

As they say “It’s better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times”. So, we invite you to visit Armenia to participate in Tolma Festival, which will take place on 19 May in Hnaberd town, Ararat region. The Festival is organized by the Ministry of Culture and it has been holding since 2011. During the festival you will not only have the opportunity to taste Tolma, but also to participate in a cultural program with folk songs and dances.

#Carahunge or #Karahundj, #Zoratskarer is 3, 500 years older than England’s Stonehenge and 3, 000 years older than the Egyptian pyramids. The total area of the observatory is 7 hectares. According to the scientist’s findings, a temple consisting of 40 stones built in honor of the Armenians’ main God, Ari, meaning the Sun, is situated in the central part of Carahunge. Besides the temple, it had a large and developed observatory, and also a university that makes up the temple’s wings.

#Khash (in Armenian #Խաշ) is one of the most festive #Armenian dishes eaten mostly in the cold season. Its cooking and consumption is highly stylized and it is enjoyed early in the morning with good amounts of garlic and vodka.

Even the toasts are well defined and are announced in a specific order.

Khash is eaten with dried lavash bread which is crumbled into the broth. Sometimes another soft piece of lavash is used as a wrap.

It is cooked by boiling bovine shanks for hours until the tendon falls off the bones and the water becomes a thick broth. Many times cooked stomach pieces are also added to the dish. There is no salt used while cooking, but it is liberally seasoned with salt and crushed garlic after the dish is served.

Khash is never eaten alone, it always a party dish.

#TatevMonastery
The magnificent #Tatev monastic complex is located on a large plateau near the Tatev village in #Syunik Province. The monastery was built in 895 and has been a major educational and cultural centre of Armenia for centuries. Now Tatev is one of the must-see places in the country. In 1995 the monastery was included in the tentative list of the World Heritage Sites of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization

Tatev monastery is one of the oldest and the most famous complexes in Armenian. The main church of the monastery was built in 895 by Bishop Hovhannes with the support of Syunik princes Grigor Supan and Dzagik. In 930 the inside walls of the church were carved with beautiful frescoes.

The complex includes three churches: the Poghos-Petros Cathedral, St Astvatsatsin, and St. Grigor, as well as the mausoleum of Grigor Tatevatsi, the “Gavazan” monument and other historical buildings. The mysterious “Gavazan” monument was built here in 906. It is a wobbling pillar, that picks up minor ground movement, warning of earthquakes before they happen, or it would be a signal of incoming enemies from hundreds of kilometres away.

In 2010 a cableway named “Wings of Tatev” was constructed here which takes people to the Tatev Monastery from the village on the opposite hill. This aerial tramway holds the record for the longest non-stop double track cable car (5.7 km). The “flight” over the gorge lasts 12 minutes during which the audio-guide tells the passengers the history of the monastery.

The miraculous nature of Syunik and the incredible view of Tatev Monastery overlooking the Vorotan river gorge is deeply impressive and unforgettable.

#GoodMorning #ArmenianPakhlava
#Pakhlava is one of the most famous and exquisite dishes of #Armenian and Oriental cuisine. Gavar pakhlava is a dessert that melts in your mouth. Once you look at the wonderful sunny pieces of this delicacy, you can no longer forget its charm and aroma. 22 sheets of finest dough, chopped nuts and honey !! Real pakhlava is golden like the sunshine. Legends are made about pakhlava, poems are dedicated to it and songs are composed.

One thing - this dessert is very high-calorie, it takes liters of ghee to prepare it. But we strongly recommend to forget about the diet. Because it's worth it.

#GandzasarMonastery
#Gandzasar Monastery is perhaps the most prominent architectural monument of Artsakh, which for a long time has been a symbol of Armenian statehood in Nagorno-Karabakh. It is located near the village of Vank in the Martakert region, in the heart of the historical province of Khachen in Artsakh. The word “Gandzasar” is translated from Armenian as “treasure mountain” (“gandz” means treasure, and “sar” – mountain). Truly being a treasure, Gandzasar Monastery is “a pearl and encyclopedia of medieval Armenian architecture”.

#GeghardMonastery

The monastery of Geghard (Armenian: #Գեղարդ, meaning spear) is a unique architectural construction in the Kotayk province of Armenia, being partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs. It is listed as a #UNESCO World Heritage Site.
While the main chapel was built in 1215, the monastery complex was founded in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator at the site of a sacred spring inside a cave. The monastery had thus been originally named Ayrivank, meaning "the Monastery of the Cave". The name commonly used for the monastery today, Geghard, or more fully #Geghardavank (#Գեղարդավանք), meaning "the Monastery of the Spear", originates from the spear which had wounded Jesus at the Crucifixion, allegedly brought to Armenia by Apostle Jude, called here Thaddeus, and stored amongst many other relics. Now it is displayed in the #Echmiadzin treasury.

#HaghartsinMonastery
Need to find peace and heal yourself in the quiet? Not too far from the town of #Dilijan, Haghartsin is a must place to visit. It is one of Armenia’s most famous monasteries, where amazing nature and the beautiful architecture combine perfectly.

WHERE IS IT LOCATED?
Being part of the #Tavush region, it should come as no surprise that Haghartsin is located near mountains and trees. Armenians like to build churches virtually everywhere, be it a town, or out in the nature; it usually turns out to be a mesmerizing piece of work. And #Haghartsin is no exception.

The beauty of Tavush’s nature is something to see with your eyes and to experience for yourself. Standing in front of so many trees and mountains with a view of a monastery complex in front of you, feels like you are almost in a movie. You feel small yet powerful to be standing between two masterpieces – the nature and the building’s architecture.

The closest town is Dilijan, and the Haghartsin Dilijan distance is about 15 minutes by car (around 12 km).

#HISTORY
Built in the 12-13th century, Haghartsin monastery complex will impress you with its ancient history.

The legend says that the way it gained the name Haghartsin was for the two main roots “hagh” which means game and “artsiv” which means eagle in Armenian. It is believed that an eagle was flying above the dome of the monastery, and playing around it, and that is how the name was derived.

As an ancient monastery, Haghartsin has undergone through a major renovation in 2011. It now has clearly paved road leading to it, gift shops are around, and it is way easier to take a short trip to the monastery, if you are staying nearby in Dilijan.

STRUCTURE
The Haghartsin monastery consists of three churches: Saint Astvatsatsin (the main church), Saint Stepanos and Saint Grigor. Saint Astvatsatsin has a layout of looking like a cross. It has adopted the style of an Armenian domed church, rising with four arches, with no columns.

The monastery also has two gavits (one being severely ruined), chapels and some cross stones (khachkars).Be sure to also check out the most fascinating part of the monastery – the refectory.

No matter time of the year it is, Haghartsin is always a great idea to visit and reflect in the nature. This beautiful monastery with an impressive architecture is also a treat for a curious mind.

#GarniTemple

That amazing feeling when you live in the 21st century but you can enter a building built in the 1st century… The #UNESCO world heritage site Garni is the only Hellenic style temple in Armenia. It was built by the king Trdat (Tiridates) in the 1st century and was dedicated to Mithra, the God of the Sun. The temple used to serve as a summer residence of Armenian kings. After adoption of Christianity in 301 as a state religion, all the pagan temples were destroyed and only Garni still remains standing. It’s worth a visit, especially considering that the temple is located within 28km distance from the capital city Yerevan. There is a small pagan community in Armenia and their weddings take place at Garni temple with all the beautiful traditions that Armenians had in pre-Christian times. Knowing not much about pagans I had the honor to be present at the wedding of two of my friends who are among those few Pagan Armenians. The energy that was present at the temple and the ceremony with fire itself made me fly through time. Only then I realized that Garni is not just a temple but is a piece of the past in the present. Pagan ceremonies are impressive, mind-blowing, unique and it's great to know that there are many people all over the world who follow those traditions in our days. Just in 20 meters from the temple was located the palace with several buildings. Unfortunately, now there are only the ruins of it. In 50 m from the temple is located the Roman style bathroom that had a cloakroom (apodyterium) as well as rooms with cold water (frigidarium) and warmer water (tepidarium). Interestingly this bathroom had an underfloor heating system. In the bathroom you can also notice an ancient colorful mosaic. Being a residence of kings it had to be located in a place that would not be easily accessible for enemies. Considering this, the temple was built on a triangle cliff surrounded by (around 300 m deep) gorges where the river Azat flows.

If you go down the gorge you can also visit the place called Symphony of stones. It's a miracle made by the nature itself. Some people say that the stones hanging from huge rocks remind musical instrument organ, but to me it looks like a stone rain. At the entrance you can stop by local people from the village who sell fresh fruits, famous homemade Gata (traditional cake) of Garni, homemade canned products, pickles and traditional sweets. You can taste sweets right there, but do not forget to buy some to take with you to your countries so your friends and family also feel the taste of the Armenian sun.

If you want to visit one of those few pagan temples left in the world go to Garni. Impressions you get from there won't leave you for a long time.
